Confused by Thargoid Killing

I've dropped into multiple USS where there has been combat, and while they will take an aggressive stance if I get too close, I have never been attacked.

I've been hyperdicted, which apparently overloads my systems and causes everything to shut down for a bit, but there is no damage done to my ship nor myself. When systems come back online, the Thargoid just follows me around, never attacking, and never even showing aggression, even when I accidentally rammed it while trying to see it's back-side.

So is everyone else attacking on sight? Or am I not being attacked because I don't carry weapons on my ship?

I came equipped with limpets, and stole a Thargoid probe from under it's nose. That made him so mad it attacked and interdicted me in my hi-wake out.

They don't like you rescuing the escape pods or stealing the alien stuff found in the ships.

They do seem quite passive unless deliberately provoked... Beginning to get the feeling that humanity is the aggressor in this particular conflict.

Got hyperdicted by 3 Thargoid ships, 2 scanned me and left, the other just kind of stuck around looking at me, followed my movements for a while, he flashed a green light thing at me a couple of times, I flashed my headlights back, didn't seem like the actions of an aggressive invader to me.

So far, the Thargoïds I have encountered never attacked me unless provoked...

We have no evidence of whom might have actually destroyed both Federal and Imperial Navy ships.
For all we know the Thargoïds might have several factions with different agenda and view about how to interact with humans.

As long as we can't communicate with them and understand each others, only fears and warmongers will shape our relations with them I am afraid.
