Confused by the Codex

Codex: "You've discovered something! Check it out in the Codex!"

Me: "Cool!"

Opens Codex.

Codex: "These other people discovered the same type of thing FIRST in the same region!"

Me: "But......my discoveries are where???"

Working as intended? Or bug?

Yours will be in the "confirmed by" section. Well, the first one will be. Which is what fdev said would happen. But start a riot, all the others who didn't pay attention are :)

That isn't what I mean. I'm talking about discoveries made since Chapter 4 released, not before then.

No Riot required.

I think it works as intended. It shows you per region and stellar body type, who discovered it first and when (=reported). Below that, it shows when you discovered it (= confirmed).

It would really be nice if all that could work with historical data, but that's a different topic discussed in other threads.

I don't understand the Discoveries section at all. I mean, don't tell me that all the players have only discovered 5-10 things in every category! I simply don't understand what counts as a discovery and what doesn't. Why are there only a very few records? And what does it depend on whether it gets included in the Codex or not?

For example, I check out, say, G type stars. They're everywhere! What role does the Codex play here? Why am I seeing just a few records and how were they chosen? Who gets included in the Codex? Only the first, say, 5 people who discover something?

Also: Where can I find my own discoveries? My first discovered systems and planets, for example? I have quite a few from back in the day. But where are they?

I go and scan planets and systems and sometimes I have the notification that I discovered something, like a high-metal content world with atmosphere or a green gas giant with ammonia-based life but then what? Will they be seen by everyone? If so, then what about other players who find the same things? If not, why not?

The whole Discoveries section is confusing to me. I don't understand why it's so empty, how it works exactly and how it chooses which "Reported" records I see as a player. How can I myself make valid discoveries that will be included, how I can access my own records, etc.

In its current form, being so empty and not being able to see my own past discoveries I think it's not as useful as I hoped it would be.

I guess it shows first discovery for specific type. And if you have multiple reports then those are subtypes.
Your discoveries are shown only as confirmed and some records from details. To bad it doesn't count how many of actual ones you visited / discovered. That should be primary thing!

The discovery section of the Codex is basically about showing who discovered a specific object for the first time in a specific region (reported) and when you have confirmed this discovery (confirmed).

It's not about showing every single one of your discoveries. It shows the highlights of each object type you discovered though (e.g. hottest, largest, coldest, oldest etc M type star).

The Discovery section is not just buggy - it is not implemented. At least not in the way it is advertised.

I did quite sime exploring since chapter 4 release. I observed:
It seemingly shows a random(?) snapshot of some stuff from the release date of chapter 4 and since then it is hardly ever (if ever) updated. I think it's actually just updated by some of the confirmations I did myself. I hardly (if any) see any updates from other commanders.
Example: In Inner Orion Spur it shows me 5 reported and 6 confirmed Gas Giants since chapter 4 release. Well.... how likely is this number, considering everybody started exploring like crazy with the new (great!) scanning system?

For sure it is not working as intended or advertised.

It suspiciously looks like a UI demo with minimal underlying functionality. I am a SW developer myself and know the business and what to do when you are in pressure to deliver something ;-)
I guess the development team simply had other priorities for the release. Like right now the server freezes.

I assume we will get a working functionality with a later patch. Until then best to simply ignore it.
