Confused by xBox options

There are 3 options on the xBox, standard, deluxe and ultimate (Pre-orders).

There doesn’t seem to be any option to purchase the deluxe upgrade or season pass separately. So is it possible to buy the standard version, then if the game is any good purchase the deluxe and/or season pass later?

The information seems to suggest that the only way to obtain the season pass is to buy the eye wateringly expensive ultimate version which is ridiculous and probably just because it’s pre-order, but I don’t want to buy the game if I then can’t take advantage of all the content at a later date.

If the season pass is ultimate only then no thanks.

I've seen lots of people asking this but no official answer as of yet, it's very much speculation until either the game comes out or an official statement from frontier ever comes. But going by the pc release, it should be possible to buy a deluxe pack upgrade or the season pass separately after owning the base game. It seems marketing for the console game is currently all focused on getting you to buy the expensive pre orders at the moment so hard to tell what happens after release.

It's very badly worded, maybe that's deliberate to try and make people buy the ultimate version.

For me it has the opposite effect, if it's unclear then I won't buy any of them.

Also with pre-order bonuses if I don't pre-order then I will miss out on items I can then never get which would irritate me. So basically if I don't pre-order it then I won't buy it at all.

Either they are trying to be clever and get people to spend a huge amount of money, or they are incapable of writing with clarity which is unfortunate. Either way there will be a number of people like me who will just think it isn't worth the bother and forget about it completely.

After looking at the website it looks like it's an add-on to the different editions and not separate but I'll ask and get an answer for ya as soon as I can.

You will be able to buy the base game, and then upgrade to a different version or buy the DLC’s as they release. Obviously this hasn’t been officially announced, but that’s how it works with almost all other games in the Xbox store.

So, what I was told was "The season pass will be available at launch separately"

I looked on the xbox store, it lists the season pass, it then says 'not sold separately', if you choose edition then the only option is ultimate at £99.99.

If you look on the official website then the deluxe upgrade is only available with deluxe or ultimate and the season pass only with ultimate.

Hence the confusion.

Well yes, MOST games do that, ALMOST ALL games do that. But that doesn't mean that it is a legal requirement. If ALMOST all games do that then by definition NOT ALL games do that, therefore some games DO NOT do that...

MOST games sell DLC as add-ons to ALL versions that don't already include it, but that doesn't mean that they have to and it doesn't mean that it will definitely happen.

The three options are currently £40, £50 and £100. If I buy deluxe at £50 then is it guaranteed that I can buy the season pass at a later date and thus be identical to the ultimate version? No, it isn't, indeed if you take the website at it's word then it won't be possible. Do I expect it to be possible YES, do I want to pay out £50 and keep my fingers crossed NO.

I can wait and see but then I lose out on the pre-order bonuses, which, while not being a massive loss would still be irritating. It seems like an odd marketing ploy, just come out and say it WILL be available to purchase for the other editions at some point. Why be coy or cryptic. I don't have money to waste.

For my part I doubt I will bother unless it is made clear and if I don't pre-order then I doubt I will bother at all.

The images below show the confusion. It COULD mean that the pack includes that item which would make sense, but that isn't what it actually says, what it actually says is that those versions are required for that item. If you have the ultimate edition then why would you buy the season pass, you already have it. I think the images SHOULD show standard and deluxe NOT ultimate, I think it's just really badly presented. But £50 is a lot of money.

I think that when it says 'available with' in the last two images what it actually means is INCLUDED IN. Season pass should be AVAILABLE FOR standard and deluxe, deluxe upgrade should be AVAILABLE FOR standard.

Maybe their marketing/sales departments need a bit of a refresher course.

Given how heather asked the planet zoo team most likely and the answer was the pass will be available after launch, the season pass will definitely be updated to allow people to buy it seperately but only as a dlc like purchase. The xbox store requirement states you must require a game to purchase it which a standard version will fulfill that requirement, obviously currently you can't buy the season pass seperately because the offer right now is tied to the expensive game packages.

I know I am being pedantic here for which I apologise.

I like the look of the game, I miss Zoo Tycoon (the original not the really dreadful v2 - what is wrong with top down!). This game looks great and I am interested in buying the deluxe version as I can't afford to buy the ultimate version which is obviously the one I really want.

I just want it spelled out nice and clearly.

🙂

Sorry, but again MOST LIKELY.

Also if you go to other games with season passes and you pop-down the 'choose game' as I did in the image then you will see the games required for that item, in other words the game you must own to be able to purchase the pass.

For the planet zoo pop-down it only shows ultimate. Again, I think it's a mistake - if you own ultimate then why would you buy the pass it's already included, I think the pop-down should list standard and ultimate, but it doesn't.

Surely it is in everyone's best interest just to be clear. It isn't difficult.

Is it a secret? Why?

Just state 'season pass will be available separately for the standard & deluxe editions'.

Simple, clear, unambiguous.

It could be a lot clearer, on the pre-order websites I agree. I would have assumed it wasn't available separately.
