Just logged into the game after many months away to be confronted with a choice between "Legacy" and "Live". Reading through the various notes is about as clear as mud, at least in so far as if I update to "Live" does that mean I must play in Open or is Solo mode still available?

Legacy = 3.8, no Thargoids or CGs
Live = 4.0, go there if you want Thargoids or CGs

There is no overlap between Legacy and Live (like in the old days when we had public betas) - whatever you do in Legacy is invisible in Live and vice versa.

Otherwise, it's still all the same - same game modes are available (with probably the one exception that changes in groups since after the split will only be reflected in the associated server mode).

It should also be noted that CMDR stats and the BGS, Powerplay, etc. are separated between Live and Legacy, i.e. changes in one will not change the other.

Legacy is Hozions 3.8 with the older GUIs and will no longer be supported by Frontier with CGs and probably updates etc. We'll see. It is now separate so progression in Legacy will not be applied to the other versions.

Live is Horizons 4.0 with the new GUIs and will be supported. It does not have on foot play or Odyssey bases that support this. Progression in Horizons 4.0 will be applied to Qdyssey.

Odyssey adds on foot play, is supported, and progression is applied to Horizons 4.0. Wearing an Odyssey suit then switching to Horizons 4.0 will have interesting results but the player doesn't lose anything.

All player modes are still available and if you have joined any groups they are still there.
