Engineers confused. mission says look in uss, nav beacon says look on planet

I have a mission for some structural regulators. in the description it says scan nav beacon for location, and I may need a srv. The nav beacon gives me a mission icon on a planet, but in the transactions tab, it says look in signal sources. So which is it?

You need to go in the vicinity of the planet and look for a blue uss (just stay near the planet until it appears). Watch out for gravity, the items you need to scoop may fall towards the palnet.

Edit: oh it says you need a SRV? In this case go to the planet mentioned and a storage cache (something like that) will appear somewhere on the surface of the planet (check your navigation panel).

If the mission logo has a canister overlaid on top of a planet - its on the planet - your target computer well lead you into a scan mini game when very close to the "source". Kinda fun. Ignore USS for ground based locate missions.

Generally now, signal sources for missions are close to planets, and will give a planet as a location. However, if the mission says you will need an SRV then I imagine that you are looking for a POI / signal source on an actual planet, in which case it will show up as a wreckage site (probably).

You're apparently seeking something on a planet, needing an SRV. I was a bit quick here.
Additional info for those who seek an USS in space:

System-map
Open system map after updating the mission, look for the mission icon in the system map, it will tell you which planet/object you need to get within the influence of to get the correct USS.

Object of influence
Look at the navigation MFD (left), you have the blue 'caret/diamond' at the end of a name in the list.
Where the blue diamond is, that's the object thats in your influence.
