Confused New Player - What Version/Game Am I Playing

I've decided to come back to ED and give it a try again. In 2014 I purchased the ED Beta and then in 2017 I bought the Horizons season pass. When I go into my Frontier account I can download ED Horizons Season Pass. What game is this?

When I go the the Frontier store I see:

ED
ED Deluxe
ED Odyssey

these available for purchase. I'm guessing I have the base game ED? Searching around I saw mention of Legacy and Live? What are they? Its confusing so I hope some one can help straighten this out for me thanks.

If u run the launcher and choose "Manage" you can see which versions of the game you own. If u have Odyssey install Odyssey, the Horizon features are implemented. If you don't see the Odyssey pack there u need to buy it. Don't know if it is inside the horizon drain season pass. Season passes normally contain all the contents that are released for the specific dlc (in this case Horizon)

Been too long

"Live" is the current version with all features, also known as "4.1" or "Trailblazer". If you do not own Odyssey, you still play in the same galaxy, you just don't get to leave your ship, walk around, or land on planets (including any surface installation that's BLUE in the port list).

"Legacy" is the old engine, also known as... 3.8 I think. This is what the console players are on.

So really, for your case, you really only need to worry about two versions: Horizons or Odyssey. As Wade says above, if the launcher does not give you Odyssey is an option, then you've got Horizons. The concept of "season pass" stopped being meaningful some years ago. Horizon was rolled into the base game, everybody has it, by default.

Now, with that said - if you had Horizons before some date (which I cannot remember but it was before the Live/Legacy split), you got a whole bunch of Azure paint jobs - a sort of pearly blue, for all ships available at that time. If you have them, they'll be automatically available in your livery editor, no special action required on your part.

Thank you. I did check the launcher and I have Horizons only. So I assume I'm playing in "Live" aka "4.1/Trailblazer" if I understand the above response correctly??

Yeah. If you haven't got Oddysey you are on "Live Horizons" version, same game engine as Odyssey version, but you can't get out of your ship or srv and walk around.

Legacy is available for you I think (via the manage versions thing in the launcher) but uses different galaxy data set, same as console players use, as well as the older game engine version. You can switch between versions freely.

If/when you get Odyssey (worth it to be able to buy the new ships for credits!) you can still use your existing Live Horizons version via the same "manage versions" thing in the launcher as well, if you like.

Odyssey and Live Horizons share the same galaxy data and updates.
