Newcomer / Intro Confused on Class and Rating

Little confused now on upgrading my ship.
Just want to make sure I understand correctly.

For the non-weapon upgrades it looks like the progression is from Rating E to A where A is best?
But then there is a Class progression from 1 to 4 where 4 is best? ...so A4 might be best given my stated ranges?

And now the weapons.... I see Ratings in the I thru A range and assume A is still best, and same rules for Class?

I think I'm getting twisted up on the weapons a bit because I see prices all over the place for A-I rated items.
Wish I could apply some filters to these in addition to the sort orders.

It goes !-4 for SIZE.
A may be the 'best' but some of the others might have less mass so can increase your jump range if you use them over others, had a hauier that could get to 28ish light years using a mix of parts.

Thanks, makes sense... the non-weapon systems aren't too bad to scan thru. But all these weapons; I may have to load em into a spreadsheet to figure out the best firepower/weight/heat/cost/etc combinations. Unless of course, someone hasn't already done it.

And to answer your second question. The ratings on weapons doesn't mean the same thing as in case of modules.

There is always only one quality of weapon of each kind and the letter just tend to tell you how good the gun should be (then again, you can also get the idea from the price tag, so I consider the letters on guns confusing and unnecessary). It means you won't find F to A grade multicannons. They will always be just F.
The number is, again, "size" of the weapon.

And, let's be honest, the class (number) is also the "size" of the module you install too. Higher class of cargo hold etc. bigger cargo hold.

The interface for modules is probably ok but I think they need to do some work on the weapons to make it clearer that the A-F reference is not the same as it is for modules. It's confusing UI.
