Confused

Hello sorry this is a noob question . I had a mission the other day where I had to find a settlement on a planet , I only had a basic discovery scanner so I brought the exploration data for that system but I couldn't find this planet. So after a hour of looking i decided to buy the advanced discovery scanner and the planet and settlement then showed straight away . My question is I thought buying the exploration data should of showed me that information anyway ? Am i missing something ?

When buying data you didnt get all data. That has been fixed one or two days ago AFAIK. Using an ADS as you did was the only 'simple' solution other than trailing NPCs, so well done!

I'm not 100% sure on this so maybe someone else can confirm/deny but the exploration data you buy isn't always complete. It is most of the time but there can be omissions etc. To be honest so few people actually buy data I doubt anyone has come across this before, it's certainly the first i've heard of it affecting someone like this (so it's deffo not a noob question) :D

Edit: Ninja'd

I'm pretty sure one of the dev updates a few weeks ago said that you'll be able to scan a nav beacon and get all the system data that way in one of the future updates, (maybe it's already there, I haven't tried it) wouldn't have helped now if it's not in the game yet, but will be a handy feature if/when it happens, and it'll be nice that nav beacons finally have a use. :)
