Combat should have consequences on materials, minerals and data the players have scrounged for, let me explain.
If a player losses a battle the mats and minerals he or she stored should be floating about for the victor to gather up.:x
Of course some of these stored bits will be destroyed in the destruction but the mechanics could provide for randomization so you could scan for the collected data and pick up MATs left behind by the vanquished.[where is it]
Lower ranked NPC could be set for mechanics for low grade MATs etc...so you could predict without knowing what you could collect if victorious and lend that unknown "what if I fail" to the encounter if you Jack another player and stand to start from scratch[woah]
I have all the make believe cash and boats I could hope for but this die and appear at a station with everything still intact just is an odd mechanic of the game in my humble opinion.[big grin]
