Considering my next considered purchase

With the up coming patch along with horizons on the....horizon, I've been seriously considering an elite controller. With the customisability of the controller along with the upcoming control remapping options in game, I'm starting to see the appeal.
If there are any elite controller owners out there, I'd appreciate their advice

Only advice I can give is a warning, the extra paddles cannot be given their own unique bindings. They can be only be set to have the same bindings as another button, ie B Button, Right Trigger, etc.

This, you can't map then as new functions. The controllers built in firmware simply doesn't allow it. However I've using 2 rear paddles (using the full 4 is awkward because I have fairly large hands and keep hitting the larger paddles by accident) as A and X. Means I don't have to move my thumb off the right stick in order to cycle targets or change firegroups

Is it true the paddles themselves tend to come off easily?

Another note, Xbox One Chatpads have two "custom buttons", but like paddles, they can only be customized to copy another button.

I have not purchased either of the two times, so this is hearsay from me...But I've heard that the ChatPad is not compatible with the Elite Controller? Seems like a big oversight if true...

I have one and and like tempest i have my throttle and cycle targets assigned to paddles its a game changer for me and the fluidity in combat once used to it is second to none, im also a huge fan of the options to tweak the sticks and the fact you can have two profiles assigned to the pad via a flick of a button is extremely useful basically giving you 8 paddle options instead of 4. on top of that its a tank of a pad literally solid as a rock. would easily reccomend especially if this console generation requires you buying more controllers
due to wear and tear.

Ive never ever had one paddle come lose or fall off in all the time ive used mine, not saying others haven't just it maybe a faulty one most probably. :)

Hi all, happy Friday!

Just thought I'd say - the elite controller is worth it just for build quality, but if you persevere and re-write your muscle memory then the paddles underneath are amazing. I use the large ones for throttle and the small left for "X" button and small right paddle for "B" button.

Also - i played for a few months when this game first launched before realising there was an option to turn "yaw into roll" off - maybe you all knew anyway, but thought I'd mention it as don't remember seeing another post mention it. Damn man that was a real game changer for me, barrel rolling on axis makes all the difference.

Hope all have good weekend, I'm currently shovelling hydrogen @ 720 tons a pop for the CG 👍🍻

Thanks, but I did know this, what I didn't know before was that you can assign d pad options to the paddles

Seems abit pointless really

So you've got throttle control set to the paddles? How does that work for you?

Didn't consider the use of the 2 profiles thing but now you mention it, it seems obvious lol
I must admit I do like the idea of the interchangeable sticks as at the mo I'm using some stick extenders, but in the heat of battle they have been known to slip off.
As I've said I'm looking forward to the remappable control options in 1.6, the only thing that give me pause is the price, may have to save up

Yeah, learning to use the paddles for first time was a little confusing but rewarding once mastered and also re teaching myself not to grip the pad like i used to because the paddles are now there. [wacky]

Sweet! thanks for confirmation cmdr.

no problem, he was jus misinformed by others... elite controller could be soo much more, but its still a great buy.
mines still good as new and i had mine day one from amazon... maybe going forward they will unlock its full potential and they can if they wish to, but i wouldnt hold my breath.
chatpad is solid and makes typing a pleasure instead of a chore... maybe they will make both even more usefull in the future... ahhhhh i can dream

It works great imagine the scenario dog fighting with a pesky ship making you use that throttle allot with the Elite pad and throttle mapped to paddles means no using same fingers for hardpoints and throttle giving you total control of thrusters and weapons at same time, like i said before once used to it the fluidity is second to none.

Also i agree price is over whelming but if you go through more than three controllers in this gen then that practically is the price of the Elite pad right there that should out last allot more than them three and more... maybe the whold generation if i was to be bold.

I've only played ED with the Elite pad, and whilst it transforms every game, I think it's especially great for ED. The two tallest sticks add so much more control, especially if you adjust your own stick sensitivity in the app (toggling radial calculation on helps, too).

And with the paddles I particularly like being able to keep orienting the ship whilst toggling between flight mode. Free-looking and snapping back would be a hassle with a normal pad, but with a paddle it's practically a feather pull back and forth.

Digital Foundry did a recent head to head with another pad, and they rated it highly.

Nope, I use all four and I've had maybe one or two start to detach when I've moved with one hand on the pad, and a paddle catches on something. They do easily detach, but they don't just drop off randomly.

However I've using 2 rear paddles (using the full 4 is awkward because I have fairly large hands and keep hitting the larger paddles by accident) as A and X. Means I don't have to move my thumb off the right stick in order to cycle targets or change firegroups
I have both sides repeat their use (see above), and whilst I might change the lower left function eventually, so far I've been fine with the other shift inputs.

It'd be nice if FD supported the pad with additional bindings, i.e. mapping FA to a paddle somehow, but I very much doubt such bespoke configs for the pad will be released.

in regards of being able to bind our own buttons too the paddles from ED custom mapping i agree, hope an update for the pad could accomplish this in future or know im not holding my breath.

and chatpad being fully customisable with ED new mapping would be insane and for RTS games too, or know they are kind of dead on console at moment.

Best analogy I can come up with after some onion head vapours: If there was a table with a sheet on it, imagine you could put your hands underneath said sheet, but not look under it. Now if there was a 99p water pistol covered on the table next to a real .50 desert eagle you would notice the difference. Same for a standard controller next to an elite one. Engineered to the nth degree, but damn it's expensive ...🌳🍻👍

Only if you're trying to pull them off. Accidentally knocking them off is quite difficult.

As for the chat pad, the custom buttons can be used for a number of things. From taking screen shots and short videos to opening a specific app.

Though for some reason my chat pad will not fit into my elite controller. Fits into regular controllers fine though.

Even if you don't use the added functions the elite controller is worth it for the build quality of nothing else. Feels so much nicer to use than the standard controllers.

I nearly bought one of these things for my PC, until I discovered the secret of le Steam Controller.

Agree with this 100%. Having throttle control/fire group switching on the paddles so you don't have to shift your fingers off the triggers to match speed / switch your secondary fire from your projectile weapons to chaff is a total gamechanger. Holding the pad with the paddles attached felt a bit weird and unnatural for the first day or so, but once I got used to it I don't know how I managed without. I like having the big left thumb stick and medium right stick for a bit of extra control too, because I am an oaf and need all the help I can get.

As I said before I can't use all 4 paddles. It just doesn't compute with my brain somehow and I keep triggering the larger paddles by accident. Though having used the smaller pair of paddles for a while now and gotten used to it I found it difficult adjusting to playing without them when I visited a friend the other day. And even if you end up not using the paddles at all (As i did for the first couple days when I got the controller because I just couldn't get used to the extra buttons to begin with) The general feel of the controller is much nicer.
