Consolodated "Most Desired" Features List

There are so many excellent suggestions in this forum, that I thought it would be helpful if we try to give FD a better understanding of which ones are most desired by the players.
Please list 1-3 of the features / improvements you desire most. Feel free to say "I want that too". Since polls are no longer available, I'll revisit this thread from time-to-time and tally the most desired enhancements in this first post.
Personally, I'd like to see:

  1. Temporal Anti-aliasing. More info: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...like-this-would-be-awesome-in-Elite-Dangerous
  2. A Computer system with upgradable hardware and software slots. Things like scanners and docking computers would move out of the optional modules, freeing up room for other stuff. (This would reduce the need for splitting slots and could add more gameplay options.) More info: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/303778-Computer-Module-with-loadable-Programs
  3. More exploration tools, like planetary scanners which display "heat maps" to indicate where interesting/valuable stuff is most prevenient. More info: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...loration-Development-a-Galaxy-of-Possibilitie

Desired features semi-sorted by "most requested" order (includes feedback I've seen elsewhere on the forum):

  • Hud colors - In-game hue/saturation color adjustor, available on consoles too - free, not in the store - should allow setting both the primary (orange) and secondary (blue) colors separately
  • Fix beige planets
  • Planetary co-ordinate bookmarks
  • Allow landing on planets with atmospheres (with weather effects, like rain)
  • An Open-PVE mode
  • More exploration tools
  • A Computer system with upgradable hardware and software slots
  • Better organization of bookmarks (arranged within nameable/expandable folders with filtering which are shown on the galaxy map)
  • Space Legs
  • More Planetary Vehicles
  • Off-ship storage for materials/data/cargo
  • A market for Materials and Data
  • Multiple commander slots per account
  • Player auction house/trading post - so we can buy/sell to other players, with an in-game Frontier shop
  • Place NPC crew members in the cockpit seats and allow them to perform appropriate actions
  • Some way to clean the cockpit glass
  • Temporal anti-aliasing
  • Some way to identify an arbitrary star in the sky and plot a course to it
  • Gas giant fuel scooping
  • Increase the 60 stored module limit
  • Show stored modules on the map
  • Flight path marker (see post # 19 below for more info)
  • Some way claim and colonize a system I explored all the way out there and thus create a waystation for fellow explorers
  • Better organization of the friends list
  • Make Power Play/Factions/Minor Factions matter
  • Auditory feedback when completing a transaction in the commodities market.
  • Auditory feedback for when the Galaxy Map is displayed

Without making a suggestion that I know they are well aware of, I have my two cents. Perhaps a bit long winded, but bear with me.

1. Make Power Play/Factions/Minor Factions matter. Make me care that I am Federation. Suggest that I align with a power, and force me to stay with them or face a huge penalty for leaving --including removing power specific modules.

2. More Planetary Vehicles, with potential events such as racing or --gasp-- PVP events that are included in standard open play, and not some sub-system of the game.

3. Hud colors, purchasable by ship or by color design, officially created and released.
3.a I know, there's no 3.a, but hey... Wouldn't it be WONDERFUL to see your ship kit in the bottom right, or in the loading screen????

These are a few things I'd like to see off the top of my head. Suggestions on how to complete these requests are understandably lacking full description as there are multiple ways to accomplish such things.

I made enough money to buy a Corvette, and have enjoyed my experience engineering it into a monster... but I really wonder... what then? What's going to keep me coming back? Nobody cares if I say "I am Federation" or "Empire". I want to care, like I cared [excuse the example] for Alliance or Horde in that other game people get passionate about.

Space Legs can wait, as far as i'm concerned.

Space Legs can wait, as far as i'm concerned.

I have a complete opposite opinion (we're humans after all).
I really don't care, really nothing at all about power play.

My priorities are atmospheric landing (like in the original Elite) and space legs to have more immersion and realize the vastity of the universe....

see a star shining through the clouds while walking on a planet surface, work out its coordinates and then jump on ship and get there! My dream...

- planetary co-ordinate bookmarks

- better organisation of bookmarks (arranged within nameable/expandable folders with the ability to filter which ones are shown on the galaxy map by folder)

- better organisation (categorisation if you like) of the friends list

- a cure for the beige plague

- some new planet types we can land on (or at least decend into - I'm thinking gas giants here)

- weather systems on those planets (let me fly through rain leaving vortex trails with my wing tips and I'll be one EXTREMELY happy bunny)

P.S. I salute your venture to try and produce a consolidated list but it's been tried before and I think you'll find that there are so many that the list rapidly spirals out of control again. Good luck tho!

e.g. (sorry, can't find some of the "consolidated" lists now but you get the idea)

I would like to see features common to other MMO's that are missing from Elite:

1 An Open-PVE mode - so I can interact/see other players without being forced to pvp/be ganked, or having to form groups e.g. Mobius
2 Multiple commander slots per account (just like every other MMO)
3 Bank/off-ship storage for materials/data/cargo (like the module storage?)
4 Player auction house/trading post - so we can buy/sell to other players.
5 The auction house could also then be expanded to an in-game shop for Frontier to sell Elite items like ship skins, kits etc (like the Guild Wars 2 gem store), QoL items.

Respectful to your opinion, it certainly would be amazing to have such a grandeur feature, I concur... However I try to think of things that are a bit more realistically possible within the reasonable future. I think the prospect of what you suggest sounds amazing, but the Frontier Team isn't astronomically huge, so something like this would take likely years.

Props though, I think what you suggest would be AWESOME.

None of my top wants are in this list.

But out of the above:

1. Allow landing on planets with atmospheres (with weather effects, like rain)
2. Some way to identify an arbitrary star in the sky and plot a course to it
3. Better organization of bookmarks (arranged within nameable/expandable folders with filtering which are shown on the galaxy map)

If you leave modules in different places, other than storing them in ships, it would be nice for the map to display a marker to show location(s).

Also increase the 60 module limit. I only have 5 ships and it's really hardly enough for those few ships. Really minor.

I only have a few things on my wish list at the moment, two of which are just cosmetic but irritating (to me)...

1. A market for Materials and Data, please. I’m sure I can’t be the first to mention this, but seriously - these things are noted in the game as being valuable to industry etc, why would Cmdrs chuck them out of the airlock rather than make money off them? The rarer items could be made expensive - or near impossible perhaps - to buy (not to completely undermine the value of collecting them for engineering purposes) and be worth collecting and selling in and of themselves. We get nickels and dimes and more for exploration data we obtain just by flying from place to place. Why not for Materials and Data that we’ve prospected?

2. Auditory feedback when completing a transaction in the commodities market. Everything else in the game makes a click, bleep or whoosh when it completes...but selling and buying stuff? Nothing! Drives me mad for some reason.

3. Perhaps in the same vein, I’d love a message or *something* to tell me the Galaxy Map is loading. The System Map gets one, why not its big brother for goodness sake?

Apart from that, the game is perfect, needless to say. :D

I would like a lot of things but a relatively simple one is a change to the Modules list whereby I can rearrange their order and group them.

Really like the sound of number 2. I been thinking this myself, especially as Frontier gave us a new scanner by default some time ago and that does not use any module slot.

As the game grows in complexity (hopefully) we will all require additional module slots for all ships across the board (e.g.addition of Planetary approach module) for various activities. And item number two will deal with that issue quite nicely.

Flimley

What is a Flight path marker?(a.k.a. Flight path vector)

Well it's very simple. it's a HUD Feature that give you the direction the ship is currently moving to. Normally it's displayed as a Circle with 3 lines ( a circle and airplane wings) .

This would be terrific good for both FAO and FAon pilots... since you can actually "see" the use of lateral thrusters in both cases, and big ships "drifting" even on FAon.

This is both used in Choppers and Planes... (military and civil) and most of the time is one very important tool to have on both.

I feel that this wont be a HUGE endeavor for the devs to implement... and they could even make it optional so people who don't feel this is important just turn it off on the functions tab.

and this could help a Fton on players use fo FAO.
