[VIDEO]Constellation hunting in Single Player mission 1!!!

[Mods, please correct title to read "player", and not "plater" :p ]

There you go... thanks to HaeavyGroovez I realized the Single Player 1st mission actually portraits the sky as seen from earth (or nearby!)... I went back to the mission and low and behold I found a bunch of constellations as expected!!!

The looks of it suggest it is also accurate as per the time of the year asuming I was on the north hemisphere to start with (one can only hope as I believe I saw the Norther Star!)... but not sure if it moves with time and if the "earth" we see there also rotates or not yet.

In any event, enjoy!

Great, great video :)

"Skybox" is amazing little feature (especially for astronomy fans like me). It really makes it "real" to be out there, that every dot is real or PG star you can visit in game, not just random background image. Amazing.

The single player stars are just place holder for the real stars.

In the real game the star positions will be correct from whatever angle of space you look at.

And to travel to that star you point to where it is and keep heading in that direction you will get there.

Its all accurately modeled, until you get out into the unknown and then that bit is just guessed.

Indeed, well known. Just that I wasnt aware the SP 1st mission also had the actual night sky modelled as seen from Earth. It was cool to see it in game too!

I'm not surprised. It was far easier and gave a better result to freeze that position's skybox than to make a fake random backdrop. Why do it wrong when you have the code to make it seem real? :)

Actually it's not a fixed skybox, it's generated.

The single player missions are based in Zelada, but not the real Zelada, it's the test system that Alpha 3 was in, and it's called "test" internally, even though to us it says Zelada on the info screens.

You can find it in the galactic map in mulitplayer, search for "test" and you'll find it's right next to Sol. Hence why the generated star map is so similar. It won't show a star there but the cursor will move to the position in question.

Search for "Test3" as well, that'll be 1LY away from "Test" and that's the Iota Cruxis we were in in Alpha 3.

So now you know :)

Just tried it! Test is indeed where it should be for the stars to look like they do in SP mission 1 lol.

Thanks for the tip!
