Contacts musical chairs

Can we get the contacts to quit shifting around constantly when cycling targets? Nothing more annoying than cycling 8 cobras and they keep constantly changing position in the list. Worse is when selected contact leaves system and it jumps your selected contact to somewhere completely different in the list.
 
I think the ideal solution to this problem would be to be able to control how the contact list is sorted. It'd be handy to sort by things like contact name, range, hostile/friendly status, "threat", bounty amount, or ship size/class, to name a few.
