Current weapons engagement distance make warzones with 15+ ships *very* crowded and accidental collisions occur *very* often. Scanner improvements would help a lot on that matter. All contacts appear the same size on the scanner regardless of their size, with the notable exception of stars and planets in supercruise. In crowded warzones where Anacondas, Pythons and other large ships are abundant, the scanner can become a deathtrap as that friendly contact that seems to be a couple hundreds meter away can reveal itself to be an humongous Clipper about to crush your Asp (true story).
FE2/FFE used a color code to represent the contacts mass. Since ED already uses colors to signal friend or foe, the old system is out of the question. Using different contact size depending on ship's mass and maybe icons to represent the ship's type when the contact is fully resolved would make the battlezone much more readable, especially for players who don't have the luxury to use head tracking.
This feature could take a form of an optional sensors improvement module and not be default, as traders and some fighters (Oculus/Track IR users?) probably won't need it.
