Continuous events when out of your seat?

Say you want to leave your seat after you engage one of the fast drive modes to go to your captain's room to watch some vids(which you select from your hard drive like in virtual cinema).

Would the computer warn you if there is some trouble, flashing red lights and all?

P.S.
Also, it would be nice if you could buy different furniture and screen size for your captain's room.

If you plan on being out of the captain's seat long enough to watch a movie it would probably be better just to leave the game and put on a movie. Otherwise you'll end up several light-months away from where you want to be

At the moment you can't leave your seat, so no worries, heh. :D

Once that expansion comes, though, I am certain they will put something like that in, although considering the short travel times it might be a bad idea all around. Plus you'd have to dash like a crazy person to get back to the seat...

Theres not many relatively safe Away from Keyboard moments. You basically have to constantly babysit the game.

The original Elite had more.

I have a feeling that when I put my CV1 Oculus Rift on, I will not be leaving until I begin to slightly starve.

Trust me, many people will ask for such features.

I'm sure that can be easily rectified once the Oculus Rift comes along.

BTW, wouldn't it be amazing if you could just stanf in the cockpit area and watch your co-pilot do the fighting, it would be like watching a cutscene, only better.

Drop out of supercruise in the middle of nowhere, turn FA off, set up a slow spin, power down, get a virtual blanket and watch 2001: Space Oddysey on the main display against the backdrop of gently spinning stars. ;)

Probably when auto pilot arrives or on long journeys to the middle of no where.

What would be nice is if the movie was interrupted by like fuzzy snow, and your co pilot appears on screen to inform you to return to the bridge. And if it was for something pointless like needing more water in the screen wash or something you could eject him into space for pestering you during the film.

Maybe not watch a video but I'd like there to be an afk mode, in auto docking or SC. Where you get audible warnings (with it's own volume) for an interdiction or if collision was about to happen. Let's face it we are going to spend long sessions in front of the computer. It is important for your health (wimpy I know) to be able to turn away briefly.

How hard would it be to implement virtual cinema(fetching audio and video files from your hard drive) to ingame video screen in this engine?

Well, you could not stand around if a fight was going on - you'd be red jam on the walls of the bridge/cockpit because of the G forces. ;)

Oooh, poor passengers in their nice cabins in case of unexpected ambush!

'Hey, didn't we pick up a passenger at Aulin?'
'Yes, why?'
'Let's just say it's your turn to clean the passenger cabin.'
'Darn pirates! That's the third one this week!'
'Told you we need a way to alert passengers.'
'What? We'd be sitting pretty for who knows how long then!'
'Sure. Here's the scrub and the bucket. Best clean it in case the cops pulls us over.'
'Gee, thanks. Just do me a favour, no battles.'
'No promises!'

:p

Well I think it'll be the opposite, you'll spend most of your time in your pilot seat, but they'll come up with plenty good ideas to have you leave it in flight.

You could have a zombie outbreak among your passengers, you could have aliens hiding out in your cargo bay that need to be cleared, you could have to check something in a cargo container (is it really wheat or is it secretely illegal human organs?)... now those are good reasons to get up.

I guess this is when your crew will start to get useful, either for dealing with it, or for manning the ship while you're away.

I'm hoping and looking forward to this. Nothing more realistic than panicking, and then running around inside the cockpit, while everything explode around you. :D

One of the best design features is that the game requires constant attention. It's a feature, not a bug.

Jesus imaginary christ, that would be fantastic!
Having to decide if to pick up suspicious cargo which may hold nasty surprises. A perfect blend of space-sim, exploration, horror, RPG and FPS.

Please make this happen.
