Control bindings

FD can you please make a control bindings system which actually works, literally every-time i log in at least one of my bindings files have been wiped and every-time i place the backup file for my HOTAS in the bindings folder that gets wiped forcing me to rebind everything (my controller bindings file doesn't get wiped when i place it in the folder).

The issue is getting that annoying i really can't be bothered to go through the effort of having to setup my HOTAS (i haven't even had the HOTAS a week yet and I've had to rebind everything 6 times).

I wonder why this is happening to you? I have none of those issues. I don't write this to dismiss you, but rather to point out that if it were an issue from FD, it would be more pervasive. I wonder just how many players have similar troubles? Something like that has driven me from more than one game along the way.

I believe the issue happens when i swap from my HOTAS to my controller and select a different binding, i'm not 100% sure if this is the case but if so it means that either my controller or HOTAS can't be used as effective control methods.

Are those files indiviually named and is the second line edited according to the name.
E.g. my filename is "My_Keyboard_Mouse.2.0.binds"
and second line in this file is:
<Root PresetName="My_Keyboard_Mouse" MajorVersion="2" MinorVersion="0">

And I have another file "My_Joystick.2.0.binds":
<Root PresetName="My_Joystick" MajorVersion="2" MinorVersion="0">

They are never touched by the game.
(You could make them read-only as a work around)

I think it might be a nomenclature problem. IE the naming of each binding has to be what the game is expecting.

And the name in line 2 of the binds file is where E D looks - that is what appears in the controls drop-down list. (That is also whykeeping copies in the same directory cause issues.)

... ninja'd :)

I've had a similar problem lately. I posted a bug report about it. Tried changing my throttle to be full range, but no matter what I do it's stuck on Forward Only. Once or twice it's been full range for about 20 minutes, but soon reverts to forward only. Frustrating.

Do you have a copy in the same directory? - That is reported to have caused people to not be able to save their changes.

The binding file for my HOTAS works but when i swap my controls to my controller it wipes the file for my HOTAS and when i copy the file back again it gets wiped as soon as i launch the game.

Ill try making them read only see if it helps.

As I understand it -

There used to be a bug where your config would be deleted if the input device was unplugged before the game was opened or during play.

There's also another limitation that you can only have one custom config file at a time? I'm not sure if that's still the case, if anyone else knows...

So, if one of your devices is not detected at start up, it will continue silently

I,we have raised bug reports to ask them to pop a dialog to say this controller is missing but they have never done this.

The answer is to Just quit elite, get the controller back, restart. It will then start with the same profile and all will be well

Do not try to edit the profile.. it will lose all that controllers settings

Also back up your profiles from appdata frontier bindings folder

I am pretty sure there aren't those bugs, at least with my system (win7,Horizons).
The bindings file isn't tied to any hardware.
And I know that I am running with 3 bindings: keyboad+mouse,joystick,Custom (and some more, all pickable from options/controls, but I use only 2).

Why would you swap controls to your controller? Can you not just bind the controller to the things you need it for in the same profile with the HOTAS?

I always backup my bindings file,if something goes wrong overwrite it with backup one.

"%localappdata%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings"
