I tried that first time in my life and that is terrible and is leading a player to mistakes.
Ok folks, in RL i am also UAV operator, and controlls from UAV's are very similar to gamepad. There is a norm of controlling a flight in choppers, airplanes and the something what you are calling as a 'drone'. A quadcopter.
This is called as MODE 2 controlling scheme. There are also mode1,3,4, but they are not popular and in the most, every professional pilot is using mode 2.
Mode 2 means:
Right stick: pitch and roll
left stick: throttle and yaw
In real airplane like F16:
Right hand: pitch and roll on the stick
left hand: throttle
legs: yaw
of course in starship we have also lateral thrusters but its not hard to map it on some other buttons on pad or with some shift.
This controlling scheme of flying devices is nothing new. It developed by the dozen of years of RC amateur and professional usage.
Its really efficient and comfortable way to controll the flying machine.
In many games i can see the same mistake, it results from the fact a no one who is developing a game used RC plane, drone, or flew an aircraft on the pilot seat.
Really folks, do not use any flying devices in computer games with schemes with swapped axes because is doing more harm than good to you.
Try to use some controll scheme with axes like in MODE 2 of UAV's.
