Newcomer / Intro Control questions

I recently began playing ED. I have a Saitek X55 hotas, TrackIR5, and ASTRA (who reminds me a bit too much of my ex).

It seems the ASTRA control commands don't work (I assume due to potential conflicts w/ hotas inputs ?),
but her annoying random blather continues to interrupt at delicate moments (like when trying to avoid being shot down by a bandit); still, she's amusing. Does she have any actual practical use that won't conflict with hotas ?

My other question is re/ TrackIR -- currently the viewing is unreliable/flaky, which I assume (there's that word again...) is due to a suboptimal calibration or profile. Is there a recommended TrackIR setup or profile for ED that gives nice smooth and complete look-around views ? If so, how to I get/install it ?

Yes, as I recall, but will verify.
It did work before hotas installation, but unreliably (even having gone through speech recognition "training" a half dozen times or so).
So far I prefer just hotas -- simpler and quicker, but I imagine there are other good uses for ASTRA (?).

I'm not aware of anything that Voice Attack does that I can't do with a single keypress or command button on my HOTAS. I guess it's a matter of preference and the "ain't it cool!?" factor.
