Controller and Galaxy map

Enjoying ED with a XB 360 wired controller and Voice Attack (Verity). Is anyone else using this configuration who can advise me how to select items in the Galaxy map using the controller, without resorting back to mouse?
Moving around, and zoom etc within the map are just fine with controller, but I want to be able to select systems a la left mouse button! Because obviously without this functionality one cannot set routes etc.

I've found the 360 controller to be absolutely excellent - can't do without keyboard for some ship functions (chaff etc) but you can definitely do the nav map though it confused me for ages too

Basically you have to scoot your little circular reticule over the point where the stem dropped from the star to the graph-paper like plane is - this means you have to be zoomed in enough and have the plane close enough for it to draw it. You can use X+left stick up down to rise/fall through the map and get the plane to the right level then zoom in until the stems appear. Very close systems need more zoom. It can look quite graceful after a little practise. Get them in the focus and just press A

It's less forgiving than the mouse as you can't just click any star, but it also doesn't lose the selection every time you move over to click one of the left hand options so lose/win :)

Excellent - thank you, I will give it a try, I too have found the 360 a good controller choice, and with lots of actions handed off to VA even better. I have a thrustmaster setup as well but still find myself flying with the 360 more oft than not.
