Controller issues

Not sure where to put this post, I suppose here will have to do.

I have 2 joysticks:
A battered old Logitech Wingman Force 3D which worked untill yesterday. Now the throttle is all over the place, it won't go to zero and leaps about further up the slider. now unusable. Since yesterday it doesn't work with the Pre flight Checklist either. Yaw, roll and pitch will highlight the relevant parts of the checklist in a flickering sort of way but will not give them a tick.

I also have an old but little used Saitek X45, mint condition with 64 Bit drivers and calibrated. This will not work with the pre flight checklist either, same result as the wingman. If I allocate all controls to the keyboard I can complete the list as a work around. But when I further use the X45 the throttle will not go to zero. I have it set to forward only. The lowest it will go is about 6, I have to hit the 0% thrust key on the keyboard.

This is all a right pain. I had no controller issues prior to yesterdays update but this could be a coincidence. Anyone familiar with with these issues.

sounds like the pots inside have gotten dirty from dust, a tiny (and i mean TINY) squirt of wd40 would help them out for a while, but that means getting inside the thing.

Thanks for that. That thought went through my mind. I've been using FSX for years and now use P3D, I have them both installed and consider myself a competent pilot. I've just tried both sticks in P3D (flight sim), the Wingman is knackered and I'm happy to throw it away but the X45 works correctly and smoothly. The X45 works very smoothly in ED apart from ther throttle not zeroing and it not working in the pre flight checklist......Unfortunately a throttle that will not zero is quite a big issue, particularly in docking and launching.

I'm not sure what you mean Kerno?

I have half solved the X45 issues by getting rid of the Saitek 64bit drivers, I have rolled back to the Microsoft generic drivers. I can now Zero the throttle. The pre flight check is still intermittent though. The buttons work ok but the axis controls flicker and sometimes tick but often don't. I used keyboard assignments to get round the issue.

It's usable now and very smooth in flight. At least I can get on with stuff now. :)

Thanks.

Don't use WD40 - use contact cleaner instead - otherwise it'll only get even worse over time.

Nice link Fettator, I may give it a go in the future. For now I'll plod on with what I've got, see if I can make inroads into the game.

Thanks all.
