Controlling Factions and influence

I am in a system with only one station.
The controlling faction has 26% influence.
It is 2nd to another faction which has 47% influence.


On the status tab the controlling faction is top of the list with 26%.
The other faction with 47% is at the bottom of the list.
On the system map they are all listed in order with the controlling faction named as the one with 26%.

The one with 47% is Empire, the rest are Independants and the system aliegance is Independant.



Why isn't the one with 47% in control? I only just arrived and haven't done anything yet.
Who is really number 1 faction?

I'm guessing here but did the 47% boost its influence, start a civil war and lost the civil war?
I'm trying to understand and assess the situation.

I think once a non-ruling faction hits 75% there will be a civil war. Whoever wins that then becomes the ruling faction.

This is true. The wiki says 70%. So that makes sense what you said.

I wonder now, if I helped one of the other 3 factions which of the top 2 would lose influence. The controllling faction with 26% or the 47%?

I am going to test this now but if anyone know the answer please tell me.

The faction which controls the "main" station in a system controls the whole system. That's easy in this case as there is only one station. Originally the Party would probably have had the highest influence. The Conservatives were either there already or expended in from a neighbouring system and have been gaining influence. As said once they get 70% war will be created (although I understand it could be started sooner, it's just that 70% guarantees it - maybe).

If the Conservatives win the war they will take over one of the Party's stations - usually the smallest first I think? - but in this case they will take over the one station and because it's the station that controls the whole system they will also take control of the system itself.

Helping the lower factions should theoretically take influence away from one or both of the main two factions, but I don't think you can target which. You may, potentially, reduce the influence of the Party and increase the Conservatives, especially if they Conservatives are getting help from elsewhere (other players).

Yes, I think you are 100% correct. It's how I understand it.

It's your last paragraph that I'm trying to learn what FD did but I will go ahead and test now and see for myself who has the influence removed if I help one of the lower factions.
I understand other players and stations affect the influence too. I think I may be far away from main pop to test this.
I have notes that say the highest will loose its influence, I wonder which is highest cos on status tab it's not the highest influence that is highest ranked.
I am thinking that the highest influence (47%) will loose it and not the controllling faction but I will test.

Short answer: Its bugged. Influence changes that should have triggered a conflict didn't always. As a "fix" FD introduced the war for control at 70%. This system looks like a legacy of that bug. It is far from alone in the galaxy in that regard. Was in a system where faction had 69% influence and no stations.
