Newcomer / Intro Controls Feeling weird

So I'm a big Space Sim Fan, particularly with the Star Wars X-Wing/Tie Fighter games.

That being said, I'm not getting the same feel here. My joystick works great for those games, here it's feeling... insufficient? I'm not qutie sure how to put it but the roll/yaw stuff just doesn't feel as it did in those games... Is there any way TO get that feel here?

So basically I'm asking for control advice. I do have a controller if that would be a better alternative, but I've been trying the tutorials and it just feels that the ship/controls are more sluggish with turning then normal. Should I look at a better joystick? If so which ones? (Keep it 50 bucks max plz). The m/k controls are also a bit weird for me as well, trying to balance throttle and rolling/thrusters as well.

Many thanks in advance

X-Wing and Tie fighter had basically no inertia when turning. If you put your joystick all the way to the left the craft would start turning at their maximum rate almost immediately, even tie bombers. Ships in ED have much more realistic inertia and it takes more time for the thrusters to do their work. Give it time, you'll get used to it.

Make sure you are in the optimal speed for best turn rate as well (the blue area on the throttle bar on HUD. I believe also power management, i.e how many pips you have set to engine has an effect. And, better thrusters makes a difference. At slow speeds you can use the thrust up/down to point the ship faster to the direction you want to go to. Yaw is not used for anything else than fine adjustments.
