Controls: Same key, multiple uses. Broken?

I haven't changed my controls (keybindings) in ages but now I want to add a binding for ship-launched fighter recall (shame I can't have one for SLF launch but hey ho).

As all my HOTAS buttons are in use I wanted to use the same button I use for SRV drive-assist toggle. Surely no problem as the two functions cannot be active at the same time? But it won't have it. If I bind one it unbinds the other.

Thing is, I have plenty of other multi-function keys that I set up in 1.x (e.g. ship weapon deploy is the same button as SRV datalink scan). Now I'm scared to touch them in case they break too.

Has anyone else come across this? Has something changed? Is there a workaround? Maybe editing the binding file manually?

From the head, I have encountered similar issue long time ago, since then I use manual editing for binds.
You can also use modifiers on Hotas, or keyboard/gamepad key for modifier.
What controller do You have, are You using modifiers keys?

Hi ExoForce and thanks for the fast response. I'm using a CH Pro throttle + Cobra Mk5 joystick. I know I can effectively create extra buttons with modifiers. In fact the Cobra has a nice 3-way switch that means I could have a completely different setup for ship, SRV (& something else) so I may go that way if I can't find a simple solution. Cheers.

There are two columns for each binding as you know. Left and right. Sat next to each other as it were. Try this: Look to see which column your SRV drive assist toggle is in, and then go to your fighter recall setting and give it the same binding but use the other column. I had a similar problem that was frustrating me and this worked. I can't remember what the settings were I was working with and maybe it won't work in this case because yes, I think there are a few bugs in the settings panel.

Back up your bindings file before doing any surgery on it.
