Controls. Save as...

Ever since I started playing ED last June this has been an irritating oversight.

Yesterday evening, my EdTracker broke. This evening I thought I'd just play without head tracking, but because the game didn't see the edtracker it helpfully deduced that I would prefer a complete reset of my control bindings (to classic keyboard only). This is a terribly incorrect deduction.

I do have my bindings backed up, but in this case it doesn't help because there's still no EdTracker and the backed up bindings don't work because it's not there.

So, not for the first time (understated heavily) , I have had to use my precious little game time resetting the bindings.

Please, please, please, pretty please with bells and extra sugar, please allow us to save custom binds in game with a simple 'save as' button. Please. Preferably in the next patch. Please.

I second this motion. An X-55 has a lot of buttons to rebind if, for some reason the bindings get reset.

I recall issues in 1.2 as well as 1.3 with profiles for my X55. In 1.3, it seemed like it was only the analog axes that were changed (at least for me). I have manually renamed my profiles to ensure they are not overridden each update, but should be an option in the game for this too.

Still I completely agree with the OP, it is very frustrating when you are all excited to start playing the new version or beta and have to spend 15-30mins double checking everything is mapped, and remapping what is not.

Also, I do not recall any mention or warning from Frontier that this will impact our controllers which added to my frustration.

I saw a post in the bug reports that mentioned some of the names of the bindings were changed and this appears to be the reason, but I wonder why did it need to be changed?

Copy the file you want, paste it else where, rename it, drop it back in the above location.

bit of a long winded workaround, my key binds have not been altered from 1.1 since i did this.

Yep, I've done this since pre- beta, but in this case it doesn't help because ONE of the input devices isn't present. This is actually a separate issue to providing a 'save as' button, but the way this works (having one controls binding setup to rule them all which gets overwritten if anything changes) would be the actual thing to fix. A simple workaround would be the save as button.

The controls file is simply an xml file, it might be easier to manually edit out the edtracker entries than to remap every other control.

Thanks for the tip, that might well work, but the point of my OP was that I really shouldn't have to do that kind of thing (manually backup bindings, edit xml, create my own batch file to do it automatically etc) because it should be in the game.
