Cool effect when life support is destroyed!

I've had my canopy blown out before. This is different. Yesterday an NPC managed to take out my LS system while the canopy was in tact. You still get the usual LS countdown, but in addition to being able to see out the front window as per normal, you suddenly appear to be donning a helmet with a visor. In fact, you can see the visor mounts to the left and right, and they move with your head as you swivel around in the cockpit. I think I managed to capture it via a screen shot, but need to try to dig it up. I thought that was a pretty cool little detail, though I did wonder why I had 10 mins to get to a dock when the module was at 0pct...

Yeah, it implies that lifesupport isn't the same as your remlok (the visor thingy), which it should be as that's what gets extended when you upgrade lifesupport. It's possible that lifesupport covers both internal cockpit lifesupport as standard and also the remlok by extension, but that should mean that when it fails/is destroyed - you're dead.

I'd bug report it and let FD make a judgement call, never had an NPC take mine out (they always go for thrusters (grumble ;))) so kudos for a unique/rare modular incident :)

Clarifying question for you Hammerstein: so when I've had my canopy blown out before was I supposed to see the remlok come down as well? Because that hasn't happened before - I always did wonder how I managed to fly around with a broken canopy before. Assumed it was some sort of internal force field that kept me going. Yesterday was the first time I ever experienced the remlok.

Yes the helmet activates when your canopy blows.

You get the same visual effect when you switch your life support module off, if you want to get a screenshot of it for some reason. I do this pretty regular when I'm trying for silent running.

I believe it's a miss-interpretation of 2 things.

You have 2 life-supports on your ship, the main one that recycles the air inside your ship, and the emergency air-tanks when there's a breach in the ship.

When you upgrade your life-support, you're pretty much extending the size of the air-tanks (supposedly near your chair), this one is limited to some min. depending on which upgrade you have.

Then you have the normal life support (which you can target) which is pretty much the canopy, that once you blow it, you destroy the canopy and therefor activate the emergency life-support.

I can be wrong, since i never tried targeting life-support, but i did get my canopy blown up 3 times so far, 2 on beta 1 on gamma, and i believe i saw my life-support system destroyed when i went to repair, i could have imagined tough.

Might grab a sidewindy and go test it tomorrow :)

And actually KILL someone!!?!?!
Away with you peasant!!

Well its no different to suffocating lol, search and rescue are quick to avoid duty when you run out of fuel, but they jump to action *after* you've run out of air. I'm sure they can mend a laser turret to the face.
