COOL RUNNING Predator & Prey scenario

Help needed! How on earth are you supposed to complete the predator and prey scenario, without the COBRA Mk III picking you up?

I've tried it using the stealth mechanism and heat sinks, eventually managing to take down 2 of the 3 fighters, but finding it really hard to stay undetected. If I have the 'cool mode' on, how is he picking me up? Is it a line of sight thing? Is he picking up on the manouuvering thrusters?

Any (helpful) suggestions greatly appreciated! ;) Thanks!

They way I did it was to first go into Modules on my right UI and disable everything bar engines and life support. Next I hit silent running (Most. Misleading. Name. Ever.) and set some speed in the direction I needed to go then switched Flight Assist off and finally turned off my engines.

At this point heat isn't a problem and I only turned FA off and engines on to make course corrections. Once close enough to the target I turned FA off again, fired up the engines and weapons and blew the target up before going dark again.

Rinse and repeat.

Human players can still see you even when running silent but NPCs should not as far as I know.

I don't know if that matters to scenario AI, but to be invisible to radar, you've got to:

- retract hardpoints.
- power off shields.
- power off engines.
- wait for temperature to drop to point of freezing over.

With all that said, when I completed the scenario, I didn't know anything of the above. This is what I did:

The cobra seems to fly left to right to left across the starting position, while the other NPCs are more or less stationary. Keep that in mind when looking at Radar. You can also try locking the cobra from your left contacts menu, to better keep track of him.

- power off engines
- power off shields
- (do not enable silent running, as the heat has nowhere to escape)
- wait for the freeze over
- [retract your weapons] - wish I knew that at the time
- now power on the engines
- now enable silent running
- keeping an eye on the cobra, chose the farthest NPC away from him to FA-off boost at his direction
- You can power off engines again now.
- Once you are close, power on engines again, position behind him, full power into weapons, blast him in one go.
- Drop heat sink
- FA-off boost away
- Power off engines
- Wait for freeze over
- Rinse-repeat for the other 2.

Also note that your ship can go to almost 200% overheat before exploding.

just kill the damn cobra and get past this scenario, but must admit at that stage it's hard, so i guess you will have to kills some enemies fast and before cobra spots you, i somehow managed to complete it first time i tried even considering i died (cobra got me) after i managed to kill just 2 out of three and i never looked back to that scenario, until i got bored with incursion and wanted to try just killing cobra, it could't even lower my shields before i killed it, also difficulty varies from build to build, so patience, if you want to play by rules then use silent run and heat sinks :)

THanks guys. Must be a bit slow... pigeons learn faster.

Shut down shields, beam laser etc. and my power consumption is so low, I can freeze over without any trouble. Took out the first fighter, hid behind a meteorite, with temperature at 0, weapons stowed, and I get "I see you, little fish" or something like that from the Cobra, and he creams me. Don't get it!

Wait for him to be on the far side from you (set your radar to max scan range).

After you are done killing the fighter:
- FA-off boost away (from Cobra)
- Engines off
- Silent running off
- Weapons stowed (although I never did it when I played through, didn't know)
- Drop heat sink.
- Wait for freeze over

If you watch those videos, you will see that even at 0 temperature, you can be resolved at close distance or visually.

Every time I tried to be slow and sneaky, I always ended up getting wasted at the 2nd or 3rd fighter. After countless tries, I decided to go fast and hard on all 3 fighters, running cold (engine powered off, FA off). I think I ran shields off the entire mission, they were pointless, once spotted, they did u no good. I learned to waste the fighters on the first pass. No turning, no dog fighting. This meant I could run no sensors either, since I was visually finding targets. I would only toggle sensors on, to find a general bearing for the next fighter, after a kill. It also seemed, that there was a specific order to kill the fighters, or the cobra would end up waiting at my next target.

Don't worry about it picking you up.
Get straight in.
Target the Cobra, weps out, pips to SYS and WEP. Engage: Maximum Zappage.
Take him out. Get him out the way.
Then you can hunt down the wee ships at your leisure.
