I know these will probably not even make a FD "review for maybe wish list inclusion", but I'll put it out there anyway and see if it just dies a sudden death or gets some love.
I refer to the central sensor array during combat and travel, hardly ever to the holo display of my own ship. Would like my ship in the central sensor array to pitch and rotate like the one on the side panel to show my changing direction, also with shield strength indicated. Save side display for something more valuable. Why? Because the only thing the side holo is good for now is shield strength, which could easily and probably better be displayed as a meter like the speed or temperature bars around the sensor array. Maybe a future expansion will show damaged areas, light up when a gun malfunctions, etc. but for now, nothing.
With HD and UHD displays, getting more content on central sensor array (and making it bigger) should be explored. Ideal in cap ship command console that each "blip" have some data tagged to it (with option to turn on/off), possibly if scanned the actual ship type is rendered in tiny fashion. But I am going off topic...
But you ask, what else would go where my ship holo is now? I imagine lots of things starting with I would prefer when landing that the central sensor array view stay with global view and the side holo display change to become the attitude indicator. When in space the right holo could be system orrey view (as today the left holo changes and has a static and placeholder/ crappy system map when nothing is targeted).
In this change, the right holo could show current landing pad view with attitude that shows in central sensor, or maybe it shows straight old school ball-type Attitude indicator /artificial horizon when landing. This would create a more accurate sense of being level to the pad and a safer environment as we could keep the sensor array showing traffic around our ships and know for sure if we are level with the pad or not.
Turn & slip indicator. Passenger spaceships don't want their passengers getting sloshed all about- if anything, turns should be made to keep any force downward in passenger seat or to "floor". This requirement could add a dimension to passenger missions where penalty assessed for sloppy flying or reputation gained for more comfortable passage. Of course maybe in zero-g this is less important (although not unimportant), but even with the capable ships we have, the pilot wildly swinging around when doing a planetary landing with passengers in the back will not be appreciated. If you are hauling passengers, be prepared for more patient, and more careful piloting...
Turn & slip indicator can also be used to facilitate formation flying (on mark, a two-minute turn to right). Tool/display to assist "Wings" in doing coordinated flight and "airshow" maneuvers for later viewing.
maybe more later. Any other ideas for the holo display of your ship? Do you use it at all? What would you replace it with?
