Copilot refusing combat orders

A few days ago my Elite copilot started to refuse combat orders. So after investigating the problem I realized that that the weapons were set to inactive in the fighter.
After I set them to active and went back to the mothership the copilot started to except orders again.
However this is now happening all the time and I don't know what changed.
I have used my currant copilot for about 1000 hours and never experienced this behavior before.
I noticed it is creatable if the fighter is under construction and I leave the zone or the fighter destroys itself if over 30 k away something that happens quite frequently when recharging flying away from a Basalix interceptor. But I have been in this situation hundreds/thousands of times and never had this problem with the copilot until the past few days.
Its a pain having to quickly man the fighter, set weapons to active then return to mothership when I enter a hostile zone.
Anyone else have this problem?

Fly safe CMDR Q!!!!

yeah, I've had it a few times - not recently though so I can't remember how to 'fix' it - more forum searches required!

You NPC fighter pilot should be summarily executed for cowardice in the face of the enemy during combat or fire 'em.

Seriously, don't you lose comms if the ships are more than X distance from each other? Haven't used my fighter in very a long time so I may be wrong about that effect.

My pilot refuses orders the moment I launch it so distance is not the issue.
I took the decision to relive my Elite pilot of her duties and replaced her with a even more attractive copilot. However my new pilot is also refusing orders during her training sessions. Stubborn, but she looks nice.

I've had this issue a couple of times. The only fix I've found is to switch to the fighter and re-activate the guns from the Fighter's Internal Module Panel. I have no idea what is triggering the de-activation. Intermittent.

You could try to sell the fighter bay and install a new one. That may fix issues with tthe fighters in a similar way as it fixes issues with the SRV. You essentially get a new instance of fighter and bay with default settings instead of whatever buggy mess that developed in your current fighter data set.

I've had ED disable "modules" randomly over the last 3 months...when I log in either my engine colour or weapon colour have been set to inactive. It seems completely random. Could potentially be related.

Had the bug on occasion. Sometimes they even refuse to dock, although sometimes recalling them works.
I may have faced this bug. I've come across occasions when my crew responds with "can't do that commander". Recalling them and re-launching them fixes it all the time, although I never tried switching to the fighter to check weapons. I think they're at "Holding position" status if I remember correctly.
Edit: I think it happens if I exit E: D while the fighter is undocked and later restart the game.
