Copy / Paste Question

Hello,

I'm trying to plot a route into the unknown and, well, ..., it is a bit, ehrm, cumbersome, to type all the names of the stars (it is not that they are very logical names, ..., ehrm, nope, that's not it, ..., maybe the problem is that they are extremely logical names, they just do not relate well to the human mind...)

I would welcome a way to copy the name of the star that I have selected on the galaxy map (and that has not been visited by me or any other commander before, those I can get from e.g. EDSM) onto the windows clipboard.

Does anybody know whether this is possible at all? (and if so, how can that be done?)

Kind regards,
CMDR Jermus

you can just plain CTR C (copy the name from where ever (note-pad/ net) and once you have the galaxy map open and the text box highlighted just press CTR V ... done.

:) I was looking for a way to do it the other way around. CTRL-<dunno> from the galaxy map and then CTRL-V in notepad...

I'm afraid that that is where it is going to end... Just hoping that maybe something is possible :)

I think in 2.2 we have a high chance of seeing 3rd party programs that keep track of this for you, seeing the new API is coming out, with a lot of information, and surely your location! You could write your own pretty easily too I think, once it comes out.

i use eddiscovery mainly for this (it loggs all your travels). if i find something interesting, i copy the system name from there into my spreadsheet and make a note. i could probably do the same in eddiscovery, but ... i like my spreadsheets.

+1

Amazingly useful program. I make notes on all the useful Systems so i have good info on where to find stuff and is a good out of game tool for planning engineer commodity hunting etc.

I hired a butler to do it for me, i just dictate and he has to scribble it down, i can't be doing all that manual labour stuff ... no no ... that would be unseemly.

Hmm, somehow I have the feeling that I failed to explain what I wanted to do :).

I use EDDiscovery to log my travels. Extremely useful tool for logging my travels.

What I want to do is plot routes. To stars I haven't been to, to stars that haven't been visited by other commanders. Using the "orange hat" functionality I can see whether I can travel from (not-visited) star A to (not-visited) star B. Now I would like to capture the names of these two stars and copy them into my route plotting tool (either something dedicated or e.g. a spreadsheet).

I juts hoped (haven't found it yet) that I didn't have to type over the system names (which is what I am doing now), but somehow could copy these names. Later on, when I make the actual travel, I can then do the reverse (which I know is possible, because I do it quite often), namely copying the name of my destination system into the search box of the galaxy map.

Why do I do this plotting if the galaxy map can plot a decent route you might ask. Well, currently the route plotter and I have a misunderstanding. It keeps telling me that the route is not possible and when I use my orange hat tool I can see that it actually is possible :). And also I slowly come into an area where the route plotter indeed cannot plot a route anymore, as I will need jumponium to reach the other system.
