General / Off-Topic Copyright flags on Youtube using ingame content

Hey,

So this morning I woke up to a bunch of my Planet Coaster videos on YouTube being flagged with copyright claims from TuneCore. The video that I got the most claims on is actually an unlisted video of a dark ride I am working on and was just a test video to show to my mates. Understandably it got multiple claims on that video because I am using the ingame music for various scenes in the dark ride. I steer well away from custom content in game.

I'm wondering if these claims are legit, wheter I should dispute them or if TuneCore is just one of those troll-companies that goes around flagging people to get money out of stuff they don't even own.

Sincerely,
-KPJ

TuneCore is just one of those troll-companies that goes around flagging people to get money out of stuff they don't even own.

This

It is a horrible System that Youtube uses anyway. It is set up with the least amount of effort on their Part. The Victim is the one that has all the Work, People can claim stuff left and right without even proving they own any of the content.

//Edit:

I read up on that Company, and it seems it is a Publisher for independent Musicians. It could be that some dude claimed the Planet Coaster Music as his own and this way TuneCore claimed your Videos. But that is just my speculation. If it is true, and Frontier would follow up on this, the Guy might be in deep Doodoo :D (hint hint)

Hey there KPJ!

Sorry to see you have had some issues with your youtube videos getting a copyright strike! :(

I just had a chat with Bo who has confirmed that TuneCore is not a company who we are affiliated with and, as such, the strikes have not originated from us! We love seeing players enjoy and share their experiences with our games with their friends, family and viewers and do not pursue any copyright claims regarding our in-game assets and media.

That being said, we, of course, have no control over the content or media of 3rd parties so the standard advice of avoiding any such content applies (although you are already aware of that!)

I recommend reaching out to the company to find out what they have made a claim regarding as we do not have any information regarding this!

Best of luck, and keep making amazing content, we love to see it! :rex::smile:

I've traced down the claims to a weird company in the Netherlands. Who so happens to have re-uploaded every music piece from the game to YouTube and then claimed them as theirs via TuneCore. Perhaps this is more interesting for you as developers to counter this sort of behaviour.

I'm going to dispute the claims. I sent the dude a message over WhatsApp, I mean. His contact details are plastered all over his website. Asked him whether he was aware of the false claims and it affecting people. Then he straight up blocked me. Seems like the guy is a real jerk.

Thank you Joël and cheers for backing up the claims DeLadysigner. I hope we can get these claims disputed. The guy who did this is a disgrace to the planet coaster community.

YouTube will actually ban you after 3 copyright strikes. But if the claims are fraudulent and you lose your account because of the false claims giving you strikes, will YouTube restore your account if you let them know?

Moved to Off-topic, since this thread is not requiring any Tech Support at this point.

As stated before, Frontier is aware of the situation and will deal with it.

Good luck to all affected!

Just a thought: Video creators - Consider using no-copyright free music in your videos. YouTube offers a lot in its Creator Studio Audio Library. I've been using this source of music.

Some of the music requires attribution but much of it does not. Some content creators have created an enormous number of titles - literally hundreds and hundreds. You will find that some creators churn out junk - repeating a riff over and over - but others are really talented.

Well these strikes are not harmful in the beginning.. they let the 'owner' of the music earn the money out of your video.. so you can keep it on the channel or change the music.. since this 'owner' is not the owner, you can file a dispute.. if you 'win' the dispute, the claim will be removed.. if you 'loose' then you get that strike out of 3.. if im right the first strike means a few days 'banned' second strike longer and then the third one banned for ever with the channel..

In the end, this dude doesnt own this music and have no rights to do this.. so hopefully we will al be fine before any strike happens..

Multiple respected people from the community have been affected. But also a lot of smaller channels, like mine, who really just want to showcase to their mates. The statement about the use of music is listed before in this thread. It boils down to malicious intent by a guy who doesn't own the music but found a way to claim it as his. You can do a bit of a witchhunt and find a lot of info about the guy, but the wise thing right now is to let Frontier deal with the situation.

I woke up to the same thing on my channel. Copyright claims from YouTube. This is crazy! I hope frontier can get this worked out before our accounts start getting banned.

Reading this is incredibly frustrating, it actually angers me to think that a kid with 12 subscribers can go through a company and license music from a videogame that he has had no involvement in, its annoys me more that you can't report a youtube video unless you own the content yourself.

I wish youtube had a report option where you can select "other" and then type out the details they need to look into *sigh* hope you guys will be able to upload soon without having to worry about it <3
