Core Dynamics is an entirely irrelevant manufacturer now...

Almost all the other ship manufacturers have released new ships in the last 8 years, but not Core Dynamics. Furthermore, their ships are the weakest combat ships in the game now.

Vulture - entirely usurped by Cobra 5
FAS - Even the now also aging alliance ships are much better
FGS - Has been obsolete since the Challenger
FDS - lol

Even Lakon stayed ahead of the game, but hte biggest superpower's pet ship manufacturer has never updated anything? Really?

I know it has been said that there is likely to be a focus on large ships from now on, but the funny part is that the Corvette, the only large ship by CD, is still pretty viable.

They need AT LEAST 2 new medium combat ships to compete with Lakon, Zorgon and Gutamaya now. In no universe would a superpower like the federation allow themselves to get so far behind the curve. They should be losing every conflict they're involved 2 ships to 1.

Core Dynamics love in 2026 at the latest pleeeeeease :)

It's a close call this one that I've been battling with for months now.

SCO: Cobra > Vulture
FSD Range: Cobra > Vulture
Speed: Cobra > Vulture
Armour: Cobra > Vulture
Shields: Vulture > Cobra
Fire Power: Vulture > Cobra (This can be a subjective topic and isn't as straight cut as the others. For PP sniping the Beam/Multi vulture wins imo)
Flight Dynamics: Vulture > Cobra (The Vulture is imo the most nimble ship in the game, the Cobra is a little drifty at high speeds or at the end of a boost)

I think the Cobra just pips the Vulture, but for me the Vulture just feels tight and tuned during combat.
Completely agree with your post, Core Dynamics needs some love! ❤️

Core Dynamics just got lazy and fat on those sweet, lucrative Federal government contracts secured by giving the deciders some nice kickbacks and supporting their re-election campaigns🙂 Why innovate when you're getting paid very handsomely either way?

But that's why I also think the next ship will be a Core Dynamics one (maybe Federal Frigate?). Some senators and congressmen will certainly raise a ruckus about the bloody Empire having the Corsair and those indie hippies coming out with Python II, Cobra V, Mandalay and Panther Clipper II (and those Alliance weirdos have Type-8, but that's barely a combat ship, so whatever). Then demand more campaign donations in exchange to giving Core Dynamics a new sweet, lucrative contract for a next-gen big, beautiful combat ship—the biggest and most beautifullest combat ship, really🤪

I have never used any federal ships before, I tried a fully engineered FAS with fragment cannons and I absolutely hated it… I don’t see the appeal in any CD ships other than the corvette

Ahh, Core Dynamics. The British Leyland of ship manufacturers.

Maybe, as people are saying we need a small ship revist like they're doing with all the others, is to get a Vulture Mk2 - fast and nimble and the perfect space courier, and perhaps a new Federal Drop Ship, one that is really really good at dropping to a planetary surface like the clue in its name.

I flew the FGS (Funship) for all Thargoid battles since the Stargoids first arrived, the extra medium hardpoint over the Challenger was essential to me. The only time I swapped over to another ship was for a taxi to the next battle site, or to a Krait for the Titan assaults.

Unfortunately since we defeated the Thargoids I've not touched the funship, so guess I agree :D

I approve of your rose tinted spectacles in regard to the combat dynamics of the Vulture, <3 it does simply feel good, and I want to love it too, so much, but the Cobra is better impo. Objectively the hardpoints are now better on the Cobra too, by a whole medium hardpoint. I get your point on penetration to modules, but the flexibility of running 2 small railguns (or modded guardian chargers <chefs kiss>) for super pen and feedback, plus 3 mediums for your preferred main weapon, is really really good, and highlights the fact that only having two hardpoints albeit large, is both a blessing and a curse for the poor vulture.

So Vulture mk2 then.

SCO compliant.
Better PP.
Single Huge hard point.
SCO? no question.
Singel Huge HP? Fun times.
Better PP? Unbalanced, so that'd be a no from me. But instead maybe tweak the thermal handling a bit so you could run an overcharged PP to supply an overcharged huge PA without having to drop a heatsink after every magazine.

The Gunship is underestimated. It has the power of extreme yaw on its side. It becomes a whole different ship when you basically fly it like it’s rotated 90 degrees and/or use pitch and yaw together to diagonally slide towards your targets. Use the underslung large and two mediums as their own fixed convergence group, just like the Challenger’s 3 mediums. The higher mediums can then be something else.

I really like how the FAS flies. It’s a lot like the Chieftain but with less vulnerable modules. It just doesn’t have enough hardpoints, and the hardpoints themselves are weirdly placed. The bottom ones are blocked by the hull for anything but fixed weapons. The unicorn horn up top doesn’t coverage worth a darn with the others. A random small hardpoint for a utility weapon would be quite helpful.

The FDS moves like a greased pig across an icy floor. I think I’ve flown it all of 10 minutes approximately 4 years ago.

I do love the Cobra V (I fly mine with three Concord cannons and either two Cytoscramblers or MCs), but a Dual Pacifier Vulture delivers a fizz in the tinkle the Cobra just can't. And I am just a puny PvE player.

Um, there is still the Federal Corvette, which as of yet is the undisputed king of PvE combat. But I suspect this may change later this year. Question is: Will CD bring a successor, or will someone else deliver the next large combat ship ?

It is inevitable that we will get SCO-enabled large combat ship. Core Dynamics seems to be a great candidate for that.

Unless they do it through a completely unrelated upgrade like the Python vs Python Mk2 was. Then we could see a Sand Krauger Beluga Mk2 being the SCO large combat ship :ROFLMAO:

2 weeks ago I actually bought rose tinted Oakleys for indoor tennis :D
As I mentioned in my 1st post...subjective. Weapon loadouts always are. It almost comes down to personal preference and flying style.
I'm running 2 cryptos on my Mk5, so that may be the reason it seems less capable when targeting the PP.
As you know my playing style involved hugging the target and taking out the PP. I find the Vulture excels at this more than any other ship in the game, even after a boost as it has almost no drift. Beam and Multi (both short range) are a deadly combination and power plants don't stand a chance.
Don't get me wrong, it's not that the Mk5 is bad, it's not by any means and is a very, very, good small combat platform which is a joy to fly and dog fight in. I love it. Most of my combat in the last 2=3 months has been done in a Mk5. Still handles high CZs and spec ops like a dream.

My Vulture has been my go to for 10 years for everything combat...however if I had a schematic picture of the Mk5 I may be tempted to change my forum avatar :D

1 x Huge + 2 x Small = Happy Snuffling
