Coriolis station with "outriggers"???

I wish I'd grabbed a pic but I recently came across a crazy coriolis station that had 2 outigger arms several clicks long.

I came out of SC and wss nearly right into one!

What are they for?

If I remember correctly it was a refinery station.

Probably to provide a high apparent gravity area for something or other....

The only thing I can think of is some sort of high-g storage. Perhaps to maintain high pressure on something.

Pumping or transporting anything from those ends would be quite energy intensive w/o stopping the station.

I thought that at first...but that would be hell on your crew trying to dock with it while moving. Think of the part of interstellar where they are trying to keep up with the spinning thing....that is just spinning on axis

Going fast enough with enough pitch to match those barbells would probably be the most unpleasant way to dock.
