Corvette or Conda?

Hello CMDRs

Currently got a Conda after playing since GPP; loving the beast, currently in use as large haul trading.

Eventually I want to get enough money to afford an A-rated ship (Combat wise), but got me thinking. Should I: A-rate the Conda for pure combat, or try my hand at the feds and get a combat corvette?

I want a prize military ship in my collection I can use as a flagship for when I wing up. If any owners would share their thoughts on these beasts, I'm open to suggestions and builds.

Appreciation in advance.

corvette. it can run one of the best, if not the best, shield tank setups in the game. just don't put dual pas on it, otherwise it's poop.

conda can provide slightly more dps, and it's mediums are in a better spot for fixed weapons, but it's ability to tank is relatively bad compared to the vette and cutter.

The Corvette, especially since 1.6 is just around the corner. The new huge pulse, beam, and multicannons will really make this ship shine. It's currently my main ship. It's not all that fast, but it's super manouverable. It will also be able to launch two fighters come 2.2.

Depends how much you want 2 class 4 hardpoints. Corvette has some pretty bad Negatives IE Jump range, lack of options for Class 4 weapons (Both fixable by the time we get Horizons on console) in exchange for it's combat capabilities, it is like the FDL and Vulture it really can't do anything besides fight. If that's what you want then go for it.

As for combat builds I'll share the ones I use for the two ships

Dual C4 PA's are too much fun though.

Personally if for combat only id say corvette, much more maneuverable than the conda, for everything else the conda,

Dual pas are fun but use a lot of power, I've reoutfitted with 1.6/2.1 in mind going for all pulses and 2huge cannons which will be replaced with huge Multicannons when they arrive, before that I was using 2 large beams on huge, large pulse and MCs on small or med,

some people moan about the jump range but a class 6 scoop fills your tank pretty quick, yes it would be great to have better jump range but then you might as well call it the Anaconda MK2

Also, Cutter.

The Corvette's jump range will be somewhat fixable come Horizons. One of the Engineers can improve FSDs to maximize your jump range, so that'll take care of the biggest point against the Corvette.

I'm grinding for rep at the moment, trying to get to rear admiral before 1.6/2.1 arrives. I'm expecting FDev to nerf donation missions again, and I want to get up there in the Fed Navy before that becomes an issue.

Corvette is a better fighter than the Conda. But, it has the horrible jump range of any fighter craft. In a trade setup the Corvette has T-9ish jump range. That is with minimal weapons on it. Speed is about the same as a Conda. It is a little more maneuverable.
Taking the 3 big ships
Annie - multi-purpose
Vette - fighter
Cutter - Trading.

If you only have the funds for 1 big ship and plan to refit it for what you are doing grab the Annie. It has the Jack of all trades in spades.

If you have a very short range trade route then consider the Corvette - a safe-ish Corvette trade build with 5A shields will get you around 580 Tonnes of cargo space - this is a lot more than a reasonable Conda trade build with 4A shields (off the top of my head, 450 Tonnes?)

Generally though, the corvette is a combat focussed ship and it's jump range does not make it a viable trader.

I am gearing up for the Cutter, I was impressed with Kornilius' battle cutter build in the engineers beta. I think they made the cutter the way it is with the Engineers in mind. The cutter I think would be too overpowered if it didn't have power problems and pitching problems, not so much after the engineers update.
