Corvette or Conda?

If you have a very short range trade route then consider the Corvette - a safe-ish Corvette trade build with 5A shields will get you around 580 Tonnes of cargo space - this is a lot more than a reasonable Conda trade build with 4A shields (off the top of my head, 450 Tonnes?)

Generally though, the corvette is a combat focussed ship and it's jump range does not make it a viable trader.

^^THIS^^
Corvette is mostly combat focused but if you've got a good short trade route it can be fantastic. I've got my vette set up as an armed trader, running my 30ly trade route with a cargo of 464t I can make 10 mil per hour. I could do the same route in an Anaconda but chose the 'vette for its superior supercruise (and normal flight) handling, it's nicer cockpit and it's overall awesome looks :)

Also with 2.1 incoming I've managed to get the jump range up from 16.6Ly to 21.5Ly on the same build :D

Im in exactly the same position .. Im currently grinding for rep (almst there) but have my mind set on the vette now as I only really use my conda for combat ... (smuggling and mining I have an ASP and Python) ... I must admit the two class 4 mounts cemented it for me ! ........ Plus I have changed the background on my tablet from a conda to a vette now so I have to get one really ! ...

Just because the Corvette has      jump range doesn't make it's internals an less impressive. The Cutter is the only ship with more internal room than the Corvette.
To put it into perspective. 608 times two is 1,216.

It would take the Annie three trips to get to the same amount it takes the vette two. So if you find a route within 50ish light yr a trade vette would outpace a annie.

I still find the internals on a Corvette too limiting for multirole... whilst size 7 slots are impressive, when you fit a shield gen in it like the Anaconda, your left with roughly the same cargo space. I have 7A shields on the Anaconda, a 6B fuel scoop, an extra 32t fueltank, better armour as standard, better hardpoint placement and sizes...it's slower and more cumbersome than a Corvette but it can still shift 320t if I downsize the shields to 6A and still jump 20+ly.

Don't get me wrong, I liked my Corvette... but I also had a Cutter for the trading and CG's, an FDL for the res and CZ's so it sat in the hangar not used much. I also use the Anaconda for exploring so it seemed a better all round alternative to both the Cutter and Corvette. I sold the Cutter too since I don't really need to grind the slave runs anymore, it takes me longer to shift stuff to CG's, perhaps...but I still get to the top 10%. :)

The Corvette is lovely, I enjoyed the time I had in it...but it's certainly not multirole enough to make me want another one. That doesn't mean everyone that loves their Corvette is wrong, just different horses for different courses is all.

I have never used a shield while trading. And again if you shift 320 then I'm doing four times as much in two jumps.

And besides that, my point was that it's just as or even better of a trader of an Annie. Not that it was better for everything.

I mean, I get to top ten percent in one day with about 4-5 hours or less. How long does it take you to get there and to stay there? Probably a lot longer.

Ahh, but I've got plenty of time... retired Army etc. It's either play ED for many hours... or my wife will start getting the lawnmower out of the garage :D

I love my Corvette. Never regretted buying it. The only really down side is the jump range(I dont the extra jumps really, lets discover scan and make a little extra money). All in all I love it. Plues when we get Horizons and Engineers in june. I plan to focus on it's FSD. In turn, THE BESTEST SHIP IN DA VERSE!!!!! MUAH HA HA HA. lol just kidding, but seriously though the best....just kidding....no, but seriously.

Interesting that you fly a corvette shieldless, I don't think I would have the courage to do that! How do you deal with interdictions/griefers? Corvette base hull isn't that great

Get both, conda first to then fund the vette, why deny your self lots and lots of cool ships.

But be sure to keep a python handy for medium padz.

Things to do in a vette in 2.1: Upgrade FSD, Upgrade thrusters.. Yumm.. the jump difference between 12ly and 15 ly loaded is a lotta hops for something that is sometimes 22ly away...

If you build a Vette, plan accordingly. 2x C7 Fuel Tanks instead of SCB's will allow long distance travel without sacrificing total shield strength. Flagship designs for Vettes are as powerful as your wing allows you to be. Their job is pressing the advantage, you are fire support. Flagship Vette + 2x FAS (FDS/FGS) or 2x iCo + Python (FDL) or T-series (including K-Back) will be enough to overcome most problems.

7 frag cannons to kill anything. Plus outside of a full wing nothing can kill me before I jump.

Also the base Hull is actually really good, second only to the cutter. (though I have mil armor too). You forget that armor has a "hardness" rating. This is why Anacondas die faster then corvettes.
