Cosmetic Suggestion: Locking your ship in orbit around a planetary body.

Essentially, you can approach a planet to within a few Mm's, and then engage orbiting. The ships computer will then align itself with the planetary body you've decided to hold onto and enter the planets orbit.

Basically, I see this is a nice thing to have when combined with ship interiors (primarily for explorers in deep space).

Imagine, if you will, an Orca; its captain, you. Traversing the galaxy in luxurious ... er ... luxury; you're role playing your CMDR and you decide to take a break from your travels for a little while. So, you enter orbit around a beautiful blue/green marble of a planet that you just discovered (secretly, you've chosen to call it Bob, after your dog); you engage orbiting on the computer and your Orca's onboard AI enters orbit around planet Bob. You position your ship as you want and then watch the beauty of the Bob slide beneath/above you.

I primarily see this is a cosmetic suggestion; a "nice to have" feature with an extremely low priority (but perhaps shipped with the Interiorstm expansion).

Additional possible uses I just thought of:
  • Planetary landing, enter orbit before descent,
  • Planetary bombardment (unlikely to ever happen but you never know),

Putting this out here not only for you manky lowlifes to comment on with your thoughts, improvement ideas or what not :) but also to throw in FD's (*French accent*) general direction for them to brain-storm over (maybe, if they like the idea).

I support this as a low-priority yet very classy feature.

Hrm, maybe you could tie it into your Orca gameplay, and give out payment for actual orbital tours around interesting planets. That would presumably be extremely far into the future if ever added but it could be cool.
