Hey all, I've made numerous suggestions about new mission templates, and I'm just really doing a bit of house keeping and copying them all to one thread, where I can then simply add more, rather than start a new thread. (And because I keep losing them!)
Feel free to add your own.
Cargo Exchange (Added 29/08/17)
This mission is fairly simple, and requires (for convenience) a collection limpet controller. These missions come in many flavours, and variants, but the basic premise is you are sent to meet a contact in space, where you will either exchange cargo with eachother, collect their cargo, or give them your cargo.
Some of these are simple under the table payments, other are more serious cargo laundering, or another form of illegal smuggling.
The idea for the more illegal ones it to avoid all attention from authorities, so they would be fail on scan.
Rescue Missions
Since we're getting Repair Limpets in 2.4, and we already have Fuel Transfer Limpets, and both have no use in general PvE gameplay, I'm going to suggest a new type of mission, the Rescue Mission.
Basically, you will be required to either repair and/or refuel a stricken ship.
You simply fly to the USS location from your briefing(honking isn't required, unless it's unexplored), and drop down, and begin the refueling and/or repairs of the target.
You may also need to defend the target from attacks.
This is a good candidate for follow on missions.
These missions pay ok in general, but their pay increases quite a lot, the further out your target is. Some missions may ask you to fly several 1000ly, for very high pay.
Harass Target
Mostly issued by shady factions, but can be others too, basically, you get asked to harass, but not kill, a target, for either money, or information.
Harassing them basically consists of shooting them until they surrender. Disabling drives and FSD more or less guarantees this.
But the target might not give up the information until a very low hull %, and may wake out at any time, which you will need to either prevent, or be able to follow (a real use for the wake scanner!).
If you're scaring them in to paying their debts, you complete the mission when the target surrenders, and then wakes out with a promise to pay, or waits for you to leave. Or, they may drop the value in cargo, which you can return to your employer to complete the mission.
If it's for information, they will transmit it to you, and wake out. Or just wait for you to leave.
You'll nearly always be under explicit orders to not kill the target, ever. So just pew pewing them until they surrender and explode would actually fail the mission.
Possible hiccups could include;
These missions could spawn follow on missions, such as;
Military Based Missions
These ideas more or less all come from my experience with Combat Flight Simulators, most notably, the Enemy Engaged series. (I love those games!)
Combat Oriented Missions
Combat Air Patrol (CAP) - Space
This mission is sort of a mix between a massacre missions, assassination missions and sight seeing adventure…!
Basically, you're given a set of waypoints to visit, either all in 1 system, or spread out across many.
You're free to engage any hostile targets you spot, but targets spawned at waypoint are mission critical and must be destroyed.
All you do is fly to the target system, head towards the waypoint, and stop off to engage any mission targets you see.
Each time you drop down to a waypoint, there's a chance a mission target will spawn.
The waypoints could be anything from a Nav Beacon, to a friendly Checkpoint, Station or Surface Outpost, even a Capital Ship.
These missions would be set up so it's always fully legal to kill the enemy.
Your mission will update when you can move on to the next waypoint.
Combat Air Patrol (CAP) - Surface
These CAP missions are only for surface installations.
You will be asked to simply fly a predefined set of waypoints around a specific surface settlement (not port) and engage any hostile targets you spot.
You must be within 250m of a waypoint to move on to the next. Waypoints are usually within normal flight distance, and do not require orbital cruise or supercruise
Once all waypoints are passed, you're free to dock.
All hostile ships are listed as mission targets, and haves chance to spawn near your location at any time on the route, but they may not directly attack you, so you need to scan them.
Defend Surface Settlement
Your mission is to simply protect a certain object at a specific settlement for a limited time. Once you've arrived at the settlement, targets will spawn to attack the base, and you must defend it.
Mission fails of the target is lost.
Combat Search And Rescue(CSAR)
These missions are slightly different from your usual rescue missions, in the way that you will be heading in to an active CZ to rescue a various number of escape pods, these are fairly safe missions as you do not need to engage the enemy, just grab the pods and go. You will always be sent to a CZ to do this mission.
Hostile ships may be sent to try and capture your rescuees once you leave the CZ though.
Capture Prisoner of War(POW)
Similar to above, you'll be required to capture escape pods from the enemies faction in a CZ. The only difference being, if you pick up one of these pods, you'll be auto assigned to the other faction, meaning you WILL come under fire. You need to grab these pods and get out ASAP. These pods will also attract hostile ships to try and recover them on route back to your station.
Suppression Of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD)
This mission can be completed multiple ways, but your primary objective is to simply take out the anti aircraft defences at a particular surface settlement (not a port, that would be impossible).
You can either destroy the turrets from your ship, or the SRV. Or you can even disable them via terminals, or by taking out the generator.
Non-Combat Missions
Reconnaissance Missions - Space
These missions involve simply scanning a target ship, or beacon with your data link scanner, and escaping without ever being scanned.
You will be sent to a hostile system to look for a USS in which to scan a specific ship, or space based data node.
The moment you complete the scan, all ships in the area are alerted and will try it scan or destroy your ship. Run!
Surface SRV recon missions already exist, so not needed.
Troop/Equipment Transport/Insertion
A simple transport mission, sometimes just a basic transfer of soldiers or equipment to another station, other times an insertion in to a hostile base.
If doing a hostile insertion, you need to avoid being scanned. Not only will this fail the mission, you will also be attacked, and if near your destination station or surface port, you'll be shot down immediately!
Troops, prisoners, and slaves could technically do with a new type of "Bulk Passenger Cabin" for them, very basic, but can hold more than an Economy Cabin. But that's getting a bit more complicated then.
That's all of them for now.
Can never have too many missions.

Possible hiccups could include;
- The target receiving assistance, or ships being sent to stop you.
- Ships being sent to kill the target before it surrenders the information (will not happen for debt collection missions).
- Target offering to pay you to let them live.
- Target not knowing the information you seek, but knowing someone who does (aka, redirect, information missions only).
These missions could spawn follow on missions, such as;
- Target lied and never paid up, kill them or family member (Evil!).
- More money. If you returned cargo, it might not have been enough, try again.
- Information was false, try it again, then kill them.
- Information was good, could lead to many other missions, assassination, piracy, surface assault (not scan).
- Let target go, so they could offer you missions against your original mission giver.
