Could I ask your opinion of this plan of mine?

Small addendum to the posts:

I've now landed with Felicity Farseer and am officially back from the Distant Worlds Expedition :)

HUGE thanks to Newman who donated Relics and Meta Alloys to save me a long round trip and very kindly escorted me to Felicity after very patiently talking me through how to use collector limpits!

This Cobra is so damn twitchy, it's harder to land than the Anaconda, it's like trying to hang on to an over-eager puppy.

Now going to sell some data with her (once I work out how)

Always good to see another explorer make it back safely :) Welcome home!

glas you made it back! welcome to the bubble.

great :)

Welcome back :)

Thank you kindly :)

I've made a note of how much I had before selling the data, so I'll be interested to see how much I make this time. I bagged 130MCr from my last trip to BP but I don't expect anything like that this time as there was a lot of honk / scoop going on.

Did you get to Elvira's base yet btw? Would be nice to know you offloaded all your data safely :)

I signed off just after sorting out level 5 with Farseer. I'll be going over to the next base today, then selling everything else with SEPP.

Once that's done I'll tool up the 'conda properly and go get the goodies for the upgrades (grrrriiiiiiinnnnddd.....) at least I spent some time getting materials on the way back in. Looks like the collector limpits are now an essential item in a ship

What are collector limpets?

No really...

Frawd

I had the same question mate - they're in place of you having to fly your ship up to floating cargo and scooping them up. They go out and grab anything you target and return it to your cargo hold

Yea, I'm perfectly capable of scooping cargo fast without destroying it in most cases, but if you're collecting engineer mats collectors are essential, you'll be doing far too much collecting to do it manually - assuming you want to see your ship upgraded yoursef, and not just have your grandkids enjoy it once fine day when they retire..

maybe FD should introduce a FreeToPlay modus: "Stay with your Sidey" :D

btt(more or less ;)):
why should I consider to unlock both "FSD-engineers" ?
Elvira seems to have more interesting engineers to unlock (Qwent, Palin) compared to Felicity, at least from an exploration pov ?!

A couple of thoughts from my recent experience back in the Bubble!

I've been back in town for a little while, doing a couple of exploration CGs to help fund my 'A'rated fuel scoop.
Then, news came of Jaques whereabouts, so I thought I would try to help him out again.
I figure I gave him some of the fuel he used to get where he is, so it is partly my responsibility...

So, I popped over to Darnielles Progress for some Meta-Alloys. Ok, cargo loaded, I prepared for a new adventure. A course was plotted in the general direction of the Dumbell Nebula, and I lifted off.
As soon as I jumped into supercruise, there he was - NPC Numptyderp. I think that was his name, anyway. 'Let's see what you've got!' he says, while trying to use his lasers as a tin-opener.

I boosted away, while putting more power to shields to cover my behind. It was at about this point that I realised I had forgotten to switch on my Power Distributor. Everything had been powered off for cooler running while scooping - I thought everything was back on but I must have missed that one... Doh!

Anyway, I managed to jump back to supercruise, and at that point I had to leave due to a Non-Maskable Interrupt from my daughter. On returning a little while later, I thought 'Maybe there are some more Meta-Alloys available now?'. So I popped back to Darnielle and loaded up again. Can you spot my little mistake?

I lifted off again, cleared mass-lock, and proceeded to jump out to my first destination. Erm, nothing happened. Why is it telling me I have exceeded my fuel limits? Oh yes, I filled up with cargo after plotting my route - that changes my max jump range, doesn't it. Forgot about that. Aaaand there he is again, NPC Numptyderp.

So, now I'm trying to boost, corkscrew, and select a new jump target from the navigation panel - all at the same time. Eventually I got a target a couple of light years away and jumped out. I spent a little time there licking my wounds and calming down (and getting a beer!) before re-plotting a route vaguely towards the dumbell nebula and safety.

Lessons learned: Always remember to switch things back on when approaching 'civilised' space, and remember that cargo affects jump range!
