Could we get this in VR?

There is one huge flaw in the galaxy map in VR. Is there any way to get something like this?

This is the Windows On Screen keyboard that is built into every Windows 7 install by default. Even bringing this up on the screen would be enough to enter text into the search window when in VR. Click the letters with mouse to enter text in the search window.

A custom keyboard would not need to have a lot of keys; just 1-0, A-Z, space, dash and enter will let us type all star system names. [up]

I believe it's a long standing request. It's something I've wanted since when I first got the DK2 during the ED Kickstarter. I remain hopeful!

Given the keyboard is already built into Windows it should be easy to call it and place it over the game window. I can't see a great amount of work to make this work, unless Frontier is working on another input method, or different interface.

Oh god yes this so much please.

Anyway to get a virtual keyboard to work inside the ED client. I know windows has one already for disabled people, or even voice recognition.

I have a VoiceAttack profile that lets me spell out names, but for long names it isn't practical.

When exploring saying FCDEV-2D-X456-R2 does not come naturally. :)

Yes please.

Also, hows about a view controlled dot cursor like in the Store rather than the mouse?

Thats already in there check options/graphics/Mouse cursor - set to Render Window based cursor (when using a HMD.)
So only thing they are missing is showing all characters below/aside from the input box...

So it is, nice one. A bit awkward as the cursor keeps hiding and needs a mouse jog to re-display it constantly. But useful. Cheers.

ED needs built in Voice Attack IMHO - a button to enable 'listening'.

I could imagine the following voice commands would work....

"Open Map"

"Type"

"SIERRA, OSCAR, LIMA"

"Plot course"

.......and then bosh, it happens - or something like that....

I know you may be able to set this up in VA (and I still have that) but it would be cool to be a part of the game.....proper voices etc...

Thingt about ED is that with all of its short comings as a long term gaming experience, VR simply negates almost all of that from an immersion point of view. Sometimes the grind becomes almost pleasurable!

Many will know this, but it's not readily apparent. You can paste text into the Search Box.

So with Steam set to Desktop Mirror and accessable with a single tap of the button on the Vive headset I'll just copy the text of the system name from whatever I'm using (eddb, inara etc). Tap the headset again to return to Elite (remember to refocus the window) and paste.

The keyboard is indeed the only missing feature with VR and the only one that causes me to remove my headset (other than leaving the game :) ). Would be really cool to have this!
