Countering the caustic missiles- sugestions.

It is apparent the Thargoids are advanced, we have had to develop on many levels to try and keep up. from being able to hurt them, analysing their data in scans and countering the shut-down pulse. but there is one little problem for me, and that is the caustic missiles.

Type-10 doesn't have the greatest shields, and with AEGIS' buggy 1.5km range turrets you are almost definitely in the line of fire of the 'thunder cannon'. when this occurs you are exposed to the risk of being hit by caustic missiles which (as far as I am aware) have no counter-measure.

On the priority list of developments this is not high, but any help would be great. Ideas that could be effective could be;

-'Flash' shields. Not to be confused with regular shields, the device can behave in 2 ways, first being a point defence automatically triggered counter, if a missile gets too close a weak and temporary shield is emitted around the ship dissipating the caustic effects of the unshielded vessel, this is only synced to Caustic missiles to keep PvP on the norm. second possibility could be a charge and hold method like an ECM, but that would consume ALOT of energy.

-Caustic Counter ECM. An ECM programed to detect and dissipate incoming Caustic missiles.

-Point defence (anti-caustic)- pretty self explanatory and lazy approach...lazy can be good though ;)

Anyone else have any suggestions relating to countering caustics?

Best of luck!

Those things fly really slowly. Have you tried outrunning them? Their firing time is predictable based on when the heart dies.

Having said all that, we should eventually be getting caustic resistance boosting hull reinforcement packs, which will slow caustic damage down to manageable levels for people who aren't already overloaded with HRPs which is currently a pretty good way to defend against them.

Heat your ship up to 200% heat to "burn" the corrosive effects off then heat sink to drop the heat. It causes less damage than leaving the corrosive effect on.

We know there going to introduce corrosive armor engineer mod soon. They left in it beta by accident before.

Yes as was mentioned earlier knowing when caustic missiles can be launched is the best way to avoid them outright. Any time the shields go up, special attacks can come out. Be it caustic missiles, more thargons or the emp. Note that during wing fights the Thargoid will usually shield multiple times during each heart phase while if solo you'll only see it redeploy shields after you take down a heart.

If you're in a sluggish space cow your best bet to avoid the caustic missile will be to and deploy a fighter set to target the thargoid ship while you get away from the soon to be launched missiles. If your fighter can get a hit in on the thargoid ship then it will get aggro off of you and you can get some separation distance in. If your fighter is still around when the caustic missiles launch then it's likely toast though but it will have done it's job of distracting the thargoid for you. Usually at this point you'll want to ready flak and flip around since without the fighter the recently launched fresh swarm will likely be heading your way.

Does that work? Because that is totally sweet if it does. Anyone got a video?

It does work and is a real mechanic. Your ship computer will notify you when caustic effect is removed.

I'm really keen to see that in action... if that's so that's a pretty awesome mechanic!

Definitely works around 210%

Either chain SBC or SE and boosting depending on your shield status

Just tried it, works like a charm. I went into silent running, boosted a few times to get to 200% heat and it removed the caustic residue. I immediately hit reboot/repair and half a minute or so later I was up and running again with 50% shields.

I just usually run like hell when I hear that missile alert. I got lucky today when I got my first solo kill on a Cyclops since it didn't use the caustic missiles or the shutdown pulse on me for some reason. Must've been a newb :p.

I remember trying flak once a while back when I saw the missile coming, and for a brief, glorious moment I thought it had worked, right up until I saw "Caustic Damage Detected".

That's a known bug where if the Thargoid targets your fighter, and the fighter is destroyed by something else (usually the swarm), the Thargoid will no longer be able to fire any of its weapons for the rest of the fight.

I'm guessing if it's going to get fixed it won't be until 3.0 seeing as I reported it months ago.
