Countermeasures ?

Soooo yeah. I was flying in Diso today. And I met a pilot in a viper in Sc so i followed him for a while. He then tried to get behind me and interdicted me. I submitted to the interdiction. After a long silence i said Hello. He started shooting on the spot(idk why maybe my hello was not friendly enough...im sorry man my hello scared you :( ).
He was in a viper i was in a pimped vulture so i thought this should be ez pz. I deploy my hardpoints and notice he deployed chaff while shooying me with multicannons. So i wait him out(usually chaff lasts for 10 seconds or so ?). But it never ended. He just kept deploying countermeasure up to the point he destroyed my shields and 50 my hull and i never got to even fire once. is that ? I thought chaff has like a cooldown cuz NPC's use it every 1 minute or so. But i was just staring at him able to do nothing for 2-3 minutes while he was mowing my shields down and my weapons going haywire... am I missing something ? Is that how combat is? No maneuvering no outnumbering opponents ?(my friend was close but there was no point calling him he would just miss too bcs of countermeasures) He just sat there at 0 m/s shooting while spamming countermeasure... :( I had to bail out of there but that was a really awfull encounter(and ive been to CZ's and never seen that)

Viper has 2 utility slots so it's possible to stagger 2 different chaff launchers but I believe you'd need more than 2 to have the chaff launchers working non-stop. Did you try just un-targeting him and shooting him that way?

Maybe he loaded all of utility points with chaff? Then cycled between them somehow? An easy counter would be to use fixed weapons. Especially if you're flying a vulture, that thing is essentially a ship sized turret with it's turn rate so gimbals aren't needed at all.

Detarget him and they will fire ahead, though granted I wish there was a way to switch this easier without losing target, but yeah, you can do that currently. Also if you are in a vulture, ramming him is also fully valid since even with two shield boosters, you have more shield then him even with the default shield, and you weigh more. But yeah if he was sitting still, just release target lock.

Sadly no because i was sure he would eventually get a cooldown so i pumped my shields but it never happened. I mean what the actual spaghetti ? Ive been to CZ and Vultures there use some ocasional chaff, but nothing too bothersome. This, lets just say i was standing there for 3 minutes straight and never got my aim off of him(he was standing still anyway) and all that time my weapons not even for a second locked on

And thats the difference between NPC's and players. Players use anything they think will give them the edge.

This is why 99% of all PVP ship builds use fixed weapons and also the reason why good hardpoint placement is valued highly (like python)

Time for fixed i guess. Its just very hard to shoot fixed weapons with M/Kb but ill have to train. Also you tend to not hit the subsystem :(

As pointed out above, you should have untargeted him and then your weapons would fire straight ahead, as if fixed. Especially if he was sitting still as you say, you could have slapped some sense into him.

I get that, what i dont get is how did he manage to keep mowing me down the entire time(he never stopped to reload either) while deploying constant chaff ?

I don't like throwing around accusations but the incident seems pretty suspect. Un-targeting him mimics fixed weapons but fixed weapons do provide some auto-aim when you center around the target, and this auto-aim is invulnerable to chaff. Un-targeted gimbaled weapons will be much more spread apart and harder to hit with at range.

Hence why im asking you guys...I was quite astonished that a Viper managed to wipe the floor with my 20mil Vulture...

You don't know how to deal with double chaff... you serious...?

And people wonder why gimbal weapons spoil pilots that don't know how to untarget and use them as fixed.

B-b-b-but fixed is hard :(. Joking i was using gimballed for RES farming as you can target subsystems and NPC are easy targets. This was just a random encounter. Im not mad he beat me. Im just curious if you can do that...spam chaff all day ?

I can certainly sit there and use double chaff for a considerable duration, at least long enough for me to melt any shields. But if you want to wait until a double chaff is done, then retaliate? You're most likely looking at an insurance claim screen or witchspace travel screen.

I did run away ofc. He couldn t keep up with me so i jumped to a nearby system. I guess now i know the power of chaff lol

untarget with your gimballed weapons then use them as fixed weapons. Of course it isn't as good as just having fixed weapons, but that way you aren't totally neutralized by chaff.
