Turkey joined NATO in 1952. It has had three military coups since then (four if you count the 1997 'military memorandum'). So no, it isn't looking good, but I don't think the NATO alliance is under threat. Not least because the Turkish military see participation in NATO as one of their claims to legitimacy.

Turkey shouldn't even be a member of NATO. They should've been kicked out and their leaders should've been imprisoned to stand trial for the attempt to start WWIII by shooting down a Russian aircraft. ('course, they should also be forced to stand trial for creating ISIS as well, but that won't happen either since it especially would bring the truth out about CIA's terrorist activities.)

Erdogan seems to be asking for asilum in Germany, the army has most likely taken total control over the country.

Perhaps. Or perhaps it will increase. This will obviously depend on who is behind the coup (the Turkish army isn't a monolith), and what their priorities are. Too soon to tell...

I hope the military win, as a democratic person it may seem in bad taste for me to say it, but the Turkish military is doing the right thing, since Attaturk they have been the protectors of secularism, Erdogan has almost destroyed secular Turkey, i just hope the military can fix the problem and prove that a Muslim country can be secular and western, just as they were before Erdogan.

Apparently the coup is getting really ugly.

German newspaper report tanks and helicopters opening fire against the police in Istanbul.

Apparently its been going on for Days.
Loyalists and Seperatists have been Fighting in the Street for almost a Week under the presumption of Anti Terror measures.

Well it was only a Question of Time for this to happen tough.

The Military was not exactly happy that Erdogan reduced their Influence and in alot of cases simply removed or degraded people not loyal to his Party.
Now with Erdogan Openly Challenging the Constitution the Military has an good Legal Case to remove the Government under the Cloak of Protecting Turkeys Constitution.
Moreover with more and more parts of the Country being under Martial Law due to Erdogan restarting the War with the Kurds. It was very easy for the Military to actually Pull off an Coup.
Especially because the Military will have alot of Support from the Public for it.


I guess I.ll put my Money on the Military.
Unlike Erdogan. The Military might actually prove an Reliable Partner for Fighting ISIS and other things.
And I doubt that less Democratic than Erdogan is even Possible. So the Military taking over and putting up Votes for a New Government. Even if this Government will First Reinstall Military Influence. Might still be the Better Option compared to Sultan Erdogan.
