Couple of questions for Python owners....

So, I'm a couple of million off the asking price, but of course that doesn't mean i can buy it.

Obviously on top of the asking price I have to have enough to cover the insurance (pref twice), and also enough capital to trade a full cargo hold of high end goods, before I even think about upgrades.

Have a T7 at the moment, 200t's and 16ly jump range and want to switch to the Python as soon as it becomes a viable option to trade, due to the extra cargo capability and therefore extra earning.

Obviously the end goal is to fully upgrade it, but thats going to take a while, but hauling 280ish cargo vs 200 is going to speed that up, and i am aware that with only basic upgrades its not going to be fantastic to start with.

So questions...

1) what class fsd do you need to get a 15ly jump range with 280ish cargo, if it is indeed possible, and how much does it cost?

2) Realistically, what other upgrades to you have to buy, just to make it a space cow comparable to a T7 but with that extra cargo capacity?

I'm trying to work out where the cross over point is financially, ie where its sensible to change between the two, because the extra earning capability vs the upgrades needed to make it work on the Python, no point buying it until I have enough credits to be able to upgrade it to be able to make more than what i am in the T7......

Thanks in advance, fb.

I dont have one, but I have seen that you need at least 60 million. Just to give you an idea a class 6A internal slot will set you back 16 mil!

1) Even the 15 million FSD won't get you to 15LY jump with 280 cargo. I think it will be around 12LY. I'm currently on 11LY with a class C

2) I did the bare minimum recently and purchased the Python with 10 million spare. It was tight (and risky) but it can be done. After upgrades I had 5 million left. The insurance is 2.5 million and cargo was 1.7 Million so it was a gamble for a few runs.

3) I equipped my internals with mostly C and D gear and it was fine.

Once you get it you will fall in love very quickly :)

Thanks, i can live with 11Ly.

Did you go to the founders system to buy you upgrades for it or just normal prices?

With 280 and a decent run you can make 500k+ per return trip. I've been able to upgrade mine quite nicely but...

sacrifice a 3 slot for an A grade fuel scoop so it can fill at 170. The fuel costs are insane and anything less takes ages to fill up. Also just a scratch will set you back several thousand. I messed up a battle and only had 54% hull left. The repair bill was 1.5 million o_O

Still so much fun to have :)

You can't put a 15 million Cr FSD into the Python. It takes class 5 FSDs and the 5A is only 5 million. The 5A will get you about 15 Ly, but you'll need to stick to D rated components and probably reduce the powerplant class (and perhaps power distributor) to keep the weight down. A 4A or even a 3A powerplant will do the job for a trader.

You really need to have enough spare cash to buy a FSD upgrade straight away. Even unladen the 5E FSD will only get about 10 Ly.

The python has relatively short legs but one huge benefit. She can land on outposts. That's a lot of potential cargo you can put in a medium ship and I agree on the class 3 fuelscoop, it pays for itself after a few jumps
