A guild or a social system plus CQC in the main game would divert a lot of negative opinion from players who seem to think there is nothing to do in Elite. Having a social interface to communicate with groups of players and friends would focus a lot of attention from players into doing things in a group and with eachother. A lot of the comments always seem to be the games empty no ones there, it's space truck simulator or its just a grind.
Typically all MMOs are grind or have a lot of grind to achieve goals but that can often be broken up by being in a guild and the social side of things. How often in other games do you chat to guild mates whilst running raids and dungeons? Ok I'm not suggesting anything like that in Elite Dangerous but the communication side of things would help a lot. It would certainly get my friends interested in the game again most haven't played for a year.
It's about time Frontier really thought about doing this. It would increase the number of people playing in Wings, doing community goals and would add more people to PvP as clans/guilds are more likely to compete. It might even be a nice idea to implement CQC into the main game and allow clans and guilds to actually battle each other properly without risk of losing millions of credits, which would decrease combat logging. Arranged PvP happens and of course places in game have a PvP element but there's only certain players who do this. If you have a guild or clan system you allow people to recruit easier into these ideas. Mining, bounty hunting and mission running could then actually be implemented with multiplayer goals and objectives.
Just a few ideas I was thinking to myself today as I'm getting a bit burned out and will be taking a break from ED.
At the end of the day people playing together are less likely to be critical in my view as others can encourage them, show them and invite them into things to do. Whats to stop us beaming our holo me characters into a social area like the cities we see in WoW?
