Couple of Things I Don't Understand Re: Bartenders and Prison Stations (Not a Stereophonics Song Sequel)

Got wrecked doing a covert theft due to loud blasting music, heavy drinking and my cat giving me grief, only to find myself on a prison station. No problem: will just jump in my ship and go back to my home station. Except my ship is still on the planet I got mullered. Okay, no probs, I'll just Apex my way over there, pick it up, and get on with business. Except although the Apex map shows which system my ship's in, when I zero in on individual planets, the stored ship icon is empty and I can't remember the name of the settlement on which I was brutally humbled. That's cool, I'll just look in my mission log: wheel thingy, transactions, missions... hmm, no information whatsoever, just a polite reminder that the mission failed. So I had to Apex to every settlement until I eventually found my ship. (Yes, I could have gone to a station inside the system and called my ship, but I only just thought of that right now.)

Question: is there an easy way to find your ship that I can try when sober?

Secondly, do I have to nip out to my ship every time I want info on my storage? There's some basic information under weird wheel>backpack, but nothing like capacity limits or what's illegal. The bartender list is to put it mildly, a bit feeble. It's sort of but not quite alphabetical, and as with the old module system before it you have to scroll up and down looking for stuff in an ever increasing list. Am I just missing the obvious way of making this easy for myself?

I'm off to shoot some NPCs to make this right.

P.S. I don't know if I should tell you guys, but sometimes, when I walk away from NPCs in game, their hair changes colour, making me think they're all in on some plot to kill all of us. Forewarned is forearmed and all that. touches nose

I got evidence on that

One thing i'd suggest is getting to the planet where the thing happened and try to recall the ship.
