Couple of VIve Questions

Couple of Vive questions
.
I am get a bit of nausea in the SRV - Im sure it will clear in time - but meanwhile is there a way to turn 3D on and off from a hot key? I am expecting not but stranger things happen!(I'd like to go 2D in my SRV and 3D in my ship)
.
can I use my vive controllers "in game" - the galaxy map is a bit of a pain but I do wonder if I could manipulate better with the hand controllers?

I'm not sure tbh, quickest way might be to unplug the USB from the Vive and restart elite when you are ready to roll on the surface, not ideal but I'm not sure the HMD option remains available in the graphics or audio section once the vive has been detected. Worth a look there anyway . ;)

As for the controllers, no not yet anyway but would be very cool indeed !

You can rebind the joystick to the galaxy map controls and is apparently very effective, something I've not done yet.

I get motion sick in the srv as well, if I am prospecting for mat on a planet I just turn the 3d off in the settings, takes like 5 seconds. I don't think there is a hotkey to do it. I guess you could get something like AutoHotkey, and have a hot key that does all the steps for you. But if something changes you would have to change the script.

If you want to play on monitor or headset, looks at the display switcher app thread in this forum. That allows you to setup different output profiles and switch between them. Otherwise you'd need to turn the 3d option off to go back to monitor - no need to unplug Vive, just closedown Steam VR.

I only get motion sickness if I start to drop frames in the Vive. So I am still tinkering with my settings on the desktop and in game for graphics to get that sweet spot. I never been sea sick nor do I get travel sickness which is the same as motion sickness, so I know its bad when I feel ill.

Also make sure your drivers are up to date you would be amazed at how a new driver for the graphics cards can change things.

As for switching monitors check the other posts.

Yeah having the vive controllers in the galaxy map would be awesome, I navigate the map via the keyboard by memory when wearing the headset. I can bind the keys on my joystick as well to make it easier if I need to.

I saw earlier posts describing this. You start driving slow, turn on all the anti-nausea settings and don't do anything nuts like barrel rolls until you are used to it.

slow driving does help - strangely enough I ve also found looking out the side window or roof helps as well
.
weird thing is though in 2D wih the anti nausea setting on makes me ill as a bear!
