Couple wee question

Taking a mining laser just for materials, means you don't need a cargo hold or refinery. It faster to get mats from planet surfaces anyway TBH

Bear in mind FD changed the POI spawning in 2.1 so as you fly out, the blue circle POIs get fewer. They now get rare from as little as 1kly out. For finding mats, land near a crater and use the SRV wave scanner.

Ye craters seem to have the crashed meteors more than anywhere else...obviously I suppose considering its a meteor crash site. The blue circles are something I haven't seen at all fer near 2 weeks even though it was working fine before, so if it's been more rare now...well...blue circles are now but a fading memory. Yet everytime i use rover on the ground, I find mats with very little trouble ^^

The blue circles indicate other Points Of Interest, such as crashed ships, small mining outposts, wrecked SRV's, crashed nav beacons etc. Materials will be found anywhere.

Ah wait, so I saw loads of blue circles in the bubble because thats where all the crashing etc is going on and I'm out in the arsehole of nowhere? Ye ok penny has succumbed to newton's law...on that basis, the further out I go, the less chance I have of seeing blue circles which is exactly what the craic is. I love these little moments when I laugh at my own stupidity considering the solution was one that was so obvious, it was silly how I didn't work that out meself...live and learn thanks ^^

This is a long way away - head to SAG A, carry on up the zero meridian, then it's left hand down a bit and your there.

You should just be able to type it in (ie. Beagle Point) the search on the Galaxy Map.

I simply couldn't find zinc anywhere..

What are you using zinc for? I don't think I've ever used it.

Refuel the afm repair thing that repairs modules...is ok got it covered now. Weird really considering I'm finding tonnes of stuff that these engineers want apparently but I haven't actually seen any engineers to know and the one engineer who I did have a bm for wants CQC somethings so that ain't gonna happen. On the plus side, I'll have all the mats if I ever do go and visit an engineer who wants them ^^

That pretty much describes why I asked the question. On my first venture out, I did indeed come across a 250ly stretch of systems where a fuel sun can't be found fer love nor money...every system I entered was a red sun, dunno what ye call them just that I can't refuel on them. First time I tried to go through it, I had to turn back and the second time had to go around which meant a fairly drastic change in direction. While little detours are just another part of the exploration, I did realize that I simply needed more fuel capacity so I can go and explore these areas without needing a refuel every half dozen jumps.
I think you found a hidden place. :S There are quite a few of them. The speculation is that they fence off volumes of space that FD have reserved for later. There are also some volumes locked by permit.

Made port last night/this morning and got to hand in the scans I made over the course of a week...hardly groundbreaking stuff but not bad for a first attempt and I did make it back in one piece. Made some fairly major changes to the asp setup and am now on my way back out...did a good 800ly this morning and found a nice unexplored double metal planet system to park up in. And really, apart from a star and an asteroid field, the two hm planets really are the only other two contacts in the whole system so I'll have this one too.

Took the same route back out that I used coming in...was a smile moment seeing bout half a dozen systems "discovered by verminstar". Still not what I consider to be far out, I'm still surprised to find so many unexplored systems and others where maybe just the star has been claimed.
That was probably just someone scanning the star as they refueled, on the way to somewhere else. Ship's trails.
You might come across star systems where all the planets are discovered by different people. You can use this as a public convenience and leave your mark on the wall. ;)
(I wish I had chosen CMDR Kilroy as an in game name.)

As for what type of explorer I am? I find a system I like and I claim everything in it, even the asteroid belts. Holy grail for me is to find an earth like planet that has never been found before ending with a black hole which I will fly into at full speed while screaming "leeroy lives forever!"
Yes, quite. :)

Honestly? I'm still too new here to have that part really figured out...I'll worry bout the details later ^^

That's! the way to do it! :)

Just enjoy yourself. You will pick up a style as you go along.

I think I am going to see how using a smaller tank, plays out.
Speaking of that. You do know that you can filter out unscoopable stars in the G-Map?
Then you can see your fuel situation. You need to refuel before the line goes dotted. The solid line can be done with out refueling.

Speaking of style, I have found a new definition for the concept of "patience"

Currently in the mountains with the srv wishing I had spiked tires to get up the near sheer walls...like trying to drive over stalactites although actually scooping the mats themselves is arguably even more frustrating. Average sorta takings but it's the first time that I've found terrain as challenging as this and I'm enjoying finding the limits of what the wee thing can do. In terms of it's offroad ability, it is truly impressive but feels like it's lacking a turbo boost for when ye stall it on near vertical walls and just can't make that last wee bit and start the inevitable bouncing ball routine back down the mountain.

Speaking of which, I hear the current vehicles being designed by NASA have the ability to flip themselves back onto their wheels and drive upside down if necessary to get out of very tight spots...be cool if ye could do that...and trippy.

Point being that I'm free to have fun in the buggy and do whatever I want out here...don't even have to justify that little bit of fun with the fact there's some very nice mats in these hills but damn ye gotta work hard to get at them. Good thing I can repair and refuel on the fly too cos there really isn't anywhere for the ship to land here. Been in these mountains fer the past hour and still can't work out how to get off it but it can keep till later ^^

If you are specifically prospecting you should always fly to the smoothest / flattest area you can find as you approach the planet. It saves you an age on each world if you can drive around easily.

If you just want a laugh go find craters and mountains. :)

I'm more in the "havin a blast" frame of mind...I'm in no great rush even though I'm collecting only the more rare materials and dumping the rest anyway. I honestly have no idea why I'm collecting them, but I'll worry bout the details later and its a fun distraction while everyone else runs around this game like headless chickens. Nah, I'm in no huge rush to get back to that circus ^^
