Newcomer / Intro Couriering and Transporting .. Glorified Bus/Truck Driver

I went:

Eagle (flying mail)
Dolphin (hauling passengers)
DBX (Road to Riches)
Mamba (Just for flying around in the best looking ship in the galaxy)
Anaconda (for mining, when not flying the Mamba)

On the way I missed many ships, but you can always go back to those later in the game. Most ships are good for something special. The Sidewinder is a fun little ship, which can become very agile, if you give it some proper engines. You might want to keep it, and try to get a set of Enhanced Performance Thrusters from Felicity Farseer's base. Those will spice up a Sidewinder a lot without engineering. You will also need a bigger Power Plant (get the A-rated) than the one that came with the spaceship. In that case, start with the Power Plant :alien:

I really have no interest in Combat nor mining. Lost my appetite for those while playing what little EVE that I played. I bounce from one system to another doing couriering missions. There was mentioned that I was going about this slowly, hehe.. I did not realize that.. Again, I am new and still trying to figure out I what to do. From what everyone is saying, it still goes down to personal preference.
I asked the squadron question as sometimes, when I am doing 5-6 jumps that it might be enjoyable to do Missons with someone else.
Again, thank you for all the responses, Giving me lot to think on..

I suggest this:
  • Get a Hauler, it wil accept all your Sideys modules but jumps farther. Go to Maia and unlock Felicity Farseer.
  • Get a Cobra Mk III, it is an essential step up with a decent cockpit. More importantly, is has a grade 4 FSD. D-rate everything except the 4A FSD. Start to engineer the FSD. Get an SRV and land on planets.
  • Get a Dolphin: it wil accept the engineered 4A FSD. It has a great luxury cockpit, great view, runs cold, jumps far. It's a lux limo for VIP passengers, it will take you places and you'll roam the bubble. Continue to engineer the FSD in the mean time.

It's also a pocket explorer and a surprisingly decent cargo vessel, once you realize that you don't need a size 5 fuel scoop in it. The only things it doesn't do well are combat and mining, due to a lack of hardpoints.

edit: just checked on Coriolis: the Dolphin has in fact the largest potential cargo capacity of all freely available small ships, only topped by the limited edition Cobra IV.

Yes, but that doesn't translate to transport, which is what the OP wants to do, since there are no class 2 cabins. That wasn't your point, and it's why I said the T-6 edges it for transport work. Just pointing it out since some might assume the ship that carries more cargo also carries more people. The difference is very minor however, a couple butts. If it were me I'd opt for the Dolphin over the T-6 for the soft factors. But from a sheer capability standpoint i think you could make a good argument for both, among other ships too.

T6 is half the price (5mil vs 10 mil) and carries more cargo (104T vs 78T)! Other characteristics, like speed, jump range, distance, weapons and utilities are similar.

If there were small-pad-only outposts that would be another factor in favor of the Dolphin here. That's still the case right?

d8veh pointing out the price is another factor. Money's not like it was when most of us started, drip drip, but a new player still starts with nothing so that half-price is attractive.

But as we all know Saud Kruger imparts a certain cachet, a refinement and elegance not possible in other marques. And that's priceless :)

Have they fixed this Dolphin "feature" yet?:
