Courteous Pirates

My first run ins with CMDR pirates!

And so far they have been quite a courteous bunch. I was flying to Walter Waldo station in my Python and was interdicted by a Cobra. I had no cargo so just stopped for a chat and an opportune photo. A Diamondback pirate also turned up to join us.

I switch to my T7 and make a few runs before I'm interdicted by a Clipper or Cutter. This pirate only wants a small donation of coffee, maybe his personal stash ran out, so I drop it off and wish him well lol.

Good job pirates, you're doing it right.

Coming up on 4000 tons and still only top 25%!

Sssssh don't tell anyone, you're only allowed to talk about gankers on the forum ;)

Hehe. Seriously though. I only do the odd bit of pirating for RNGineering mats, but...many of the friendliest encounters I've had are from pirating.

Had one chap stop and give me several pages worth on why he was just a tiny trader with a few bits of gold after getting wiped out and wanted to keep it all. I let him keep scrawling as I deployed hardpoints to make sure his breeches were truly soiled, then told the chap I wasn't interested in gold anyway and offered him an escort to the next station while I kept a lookout for targets.

Good times.

Wow, stories like these make me wanna return to open again [yesnod]

I still think the game-mechanics for a suitable enviroment for law-breakers are lacking as well as any control system on tracking criminal activity.
So yeah, update the Crime system and give criminals more options and things to do.

Usually that's not the case anymore though. It tends to go something like this: Demands > Fighting words (Optional) > Fire > Log.

I miss 1.4

Yeah encounters are a little more toasty these days, and normally starting on the victim end.

Nothing screams immersion like a ship yelling "F--- off ganker, I'm logging".

My poor iClipper just wanted to make friends. And nick their lunch money.

I tip my hat very pleasantly to those who actually pirate people and have cargo demands etc. instead of just "hur hur I'm gonna kill yew now hur". Makes for a much better game, a much better spirit and a much better experience for everybody

I do agree that logging is a problem, tbh, I blame this on the fact that people are NOT used to piracy. They are used to some        interdicting them and blowing them up for no reason, so they just log thinking there's no point in anything else.

Well I'll be honest.

I was ready to hand over my cargo, so if I looked as though I was about to be destroyed just for the sake of pew pew's, I was also ready to combat log :)

But some damage and losing my cargo was fine, good luck to the pirate, it really adds an extra enjoyable dimension to the game.

I blame it partially on that but combat logging was a thing before Corvos was.

True true. Very True

I think either way there needs to be something done which encourages PIRACY more than just killing people. It's such a vital and appreciated aspect of the game, and something we wholeheartedly support

Shielded refinery and lightweight fuelscoops are at a higher priority. Oh and OP heat missiles, can't forget those.

shielded refinery? and how can fuel scoops be lightweight when they have no mass to begin with

Not sure if the lightweight fuel scoop was just a joke me and a lad on a ED stream made but yea there is this very useful mod (at least in the beta) where you can increase the integrity of a refinery, very useful.

Never met a polite Player Pirate. The place I was being gunned down was right at the entry to the Walter Dock; both coming and going out (when any fool would know I was running empty). If it were as simple as dropping some cargo, I would do that. Frankly, it is cheaper than dropping mines. However, it is about kills, not cargo. As a result of several, pointless, ship losses I have doing this Community Goal in Solo.

This makes me sad, especially since you also own a T7 [ugh]

The term is a vicious cycle. If I see another Human Pilot, and they are not in a T-Series ship, I assume they are going to destroy my ship and respond appropriately. If the game had an element of piracy, I would play along; however, it doesn't. It only seems to have a PvP kill count. A mechanic that would address it is to create an algorithm that would declare a bounty on any ship that kills another ship within 30 seconds of interdiction or within 1 minute (or until next SC; several things could be done there) of space dropping cargo. The bounty would also apply to any facility that the victim is pledged (say you are pledged to Hudson, then Hudson's facilities would fire on a ship that has been preying on you, instead of allowing them to dock). This still wouldn't address the problem of shooting ships as they enter and leave docks. The cure for that is to have the stations enforce their "no-fire" zones. The solution to that is simple, if a player fires and hits another ship in the no fire zone, all station guns should open on the offender.

I know these discribed pirates they are like me only after the cargo

But there is bounties applied to murderers anyway.

It's just ineffective as a system of deterrence/punishment right now.

Legit pirates are usually pretty chill. They're adding depth to the game, and making a couple bucks in the process. Just poop out a little cargo, and go about your business. Think of it as paying for a show. Totally worth 15-30 tons cargo, in my opinion.

That is, if they're in a worthy ship. Something that can mass lock me, or something that can't, but has the firepower to give me a hard time. Tiny ships can get stuffed... unless the pilot is entertaining. Then it might be worth dropping a few tons.
