CPU Requirements of DK2?

Hi Fellow CMDR's - been scouring the forums/reddit, but couldn't find the exact answer to my question so i'll make my first post. :)

Essentially, I'm curious if I can run Dk2 at 75 fps and a "mediumish" level of detail with my current CPU: i5-2500k OCed to 4.1 ish. (I know quality is super subjective, but if we broke it down into a 1-3 scale, i'm looking for a 2 with no judder)

16gb RAM, Strix 970 OC, win 7, SSD if required, but E:D is currently on game HDD.

I see a couple people how get medium level performance with an i5-2500k but they have SLI'd 970 or 980's. At the same time I see folks with 2500k getting low performance with 700 series GPU's. Haven't found any examples in the middle.

Assuming I disable core-parking, how CPU intensive is a DK2 experience?

Sometime next year I'll probably upgrade to new CPU and add another 970, but been trying to cruise with this CPU for as long as I could.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have an FX8120 with all 8 cores permanently running at 3.6Ghz, 32GB ram, 970 (slightly overclocked), latest SSD and the DK2 still seems jittery - it doesn't seem related to graphics settings, I get juddering on the dk2 when moving from being in the proximity of one planet to another - it almost seems related to network traffic, even on Solo. Without the DK2 it is silk smooth.

Cheers,
James

Almost no games anymore are really CPU dependent (if you have a decent i5). i7's dont add more than single digit % if anything, as most games are single threaded and dont utilize multicores. Its mostly down to good GPU's.

I believe that in the context of this particular forum, VR Discussion and Support, this isn't 100% accurate.
I believe that the Rift is indeed processor heavy, not just GPU, but with an i5 you should be fine.
The statement is true for games running on 'old skool' monitors though..... (yup, I did it! I called monitors old skool!... I don't care how many there are either, 1 dinosaur or 3 dinosaurs, its still dinosaurs :p )
.
I have an FX 8350, GTX 970, and 16G RAM.
I run the game on Max graphics and Rift settings (with AA off) and I get pretty decent performance.
