Cpu

I know ED is a modern game but dose any one know if it will take advantage of multiple Cpu cores most people now days have multiple cores also will it be using some sort of phyisx from nvidia or will that be handled by cobra? any pointers to existing to existing convos about this will be great thanks

FD have indeed stated it will use multicore. Can't recall anywhere to link you I am afraid.

In this case, the planetary landing and overflight of planets will not fail of power for the spectacular effects. And will also reduce the risk for the graphic card, of CPU limited

Minimum requirement for Alpha is given as a quad core CPU but only at 2GHz. So number of cores is more important than CPU speed.
Anybody playing alpha notice that sound quality is almost never affected by lag or other problems. Sneaky feeling that sound is running on it's own core/thread.

ED is strongly multithreaded, using "real cores" (does not profit from Hyperthread) - according to the devs.

PhysX is just another physics engine - like Havok or Bullet. As far as we know, Cobra engine uses its own physic engine.

I know the game is being developed to take full advantage of my PC cores, but when the Mac port comes out, will it also take full advantage of Apple cores?

Yes, because the Mac is simply another PC since Mac went Intel inside.

Whoosh! :D

There's an Intel product line 'refresh' coming up, so hopefully we might see some *affordable* hexa-cores, or some other mainstream performance bump.

I best dust off the wallet and tell my wife to halve the shopping bill then :D

EDIT: God that sounded sexist, but I am actually banned from shopping on account of coming home with everything we don't need and nothing we do need.

I do that on purpose to get out of shopping too mate - you can't fool me!

I have a quad core cpu and I've seen the alpha at least 6 of my 8 threads, maybe 8

Out of interest, how many threads does the game run? You can check this by running Task Manager (right click the Task Bar), selecting the details tab, adding the Threads column (right click the general column area in the details section and check the relevant box).

Sorry to be nosy, I don't really know why I care but I do for some reason.

Thanks :)
